The green dot and coaching, Football 2023.

The green dot and coaching, Football 2023.

If you have not noticed by now, there is a green on player helmets.

The ?green dot? refers to green sticker on the back of the helmet that is equipped with a headset. One player on offense and one player on defense may wear this special helmet. Through this helmet, coaches can communicate directly with one defensive player.

Why is this important? Well it makes coaching even more important as they can tell a player based of film and formation study ,and their own football IQ what the play likely to for their defense. Then the " green dot " player can then tell defense what the play is, and scream out likely outcomes. Example. Watch the run sweep! Or they might use play action here, so don't bite on any fakes.

On offense the coaching is different as it can directly be communicated to the QB! So in theory Kenny Pickett can call an audible. Or hear a coach say watch out for this player blitzing, or other comments. Like Pickens will be open on the post!

I assure you the smart coaches are doing this. But Tomlin is a dunce and does not talk to the offense. He lets Canada call the plays and run the offense. If you ever wonder why certain teams on defense of certain QB's are more aware, look now further than the green dot! I tell you...

I have had it with the Steeler coaching, and their pre internet and pc or style of coaching. The NFL may allow fans that pay the NFL a fee to hear what the coaches are saying on a 46 second play delay. Would you not like to hear what Tomiln and Canada are saying?

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

you do realize that the communication cuts off when they break the huddle, right?

So, they CANNOT say Pickens is open on the post

    ....carry on

I guess they could say it, but he'd be standing next to KP in the huddle

The coaches know the match ups and can talk inside the green dot. Whatever they are telling Pickett is not help him! No DUH they are not allowed to communicate after the ball is snapped! If I said that, my bad. But the point remains.

LMAO - you completely edited the post to remove all the faulty crap you said... then said "duh", probably after googling.

What do you mean "what the coaches are telling him", they are telling him the play. They only have until 15 seconds on the play clock, so they have to call the play or plays and then Pickett has to relay the plays to the rest of the offense, then he has to get to the line and set his protections or audibles. There simply isn't time to communicate in the way you are describing. That is why you see hard counts and presnap motion, that is the QB figuring out coverage and where Blitzers are coming from.

communication shuts down with like 10 to 15 seconds left on the play clock.

              Unless it's the cheatriots.

Also, in Foxborough, the visiting coach is treated to hip hop music in his head phones in the 4th quarter. Nice touch of class there.

The original post was talking about how he could tell KP who was open during the play and to look out for the blitz to the left

sounds like someone just learned about the radio and couldn't understand why all those people with headsets weren't saying "look out"

LMAO!!! I have a hard time taking him seriously when he kept repeating Brees and Brady when I asked him how many good QB's played in the Big10 in the last decade.

I'm not surprised one bit he thought coaches were talking to the green dots during live action. That's hilarious.

                        This^^.

If anyone caught last week's Manning cast they did a simulated offensive play call through the helmet. They barely have enough time to get the call in and repeat it to the players, let alone extra stuff.

Guys, I just came across this round thing called the "wheel". <common knowledge statement>
People should use it for transportation <OBVIOUS information after common knowledge>
You could attach it to stuff and it just goes <faulty assumptions after common knowledge thing is brought up>

Finally, after someone calls me on it, I'll change this post to simply say, "I got new tires", but not quite clean up all the mess I had in there at first <the cover up>
