Kozora on how to fix the run game

Or at least try to fix it. Just another indicator that there is no plan offensively, just call random plays and execute as called with no ability to audible. JV coaching staff.

I don't really dont think the scheme matters all that much if you are running into stacked boxes. You have to build in pass plays that Kenny can check too and back these defenders off. If teams are going to play that close to the line then you have to make them pay for it.

Run 12-personnel with Broderick Jones at LT and bludgeon people. Worst case you go 3-out and bruise up the D.

The Steelers have no offensive identity.

    Yeah; it’s sad.
From the 2011-2022 season,(A 12 year period that the majority of Cowher's players & coaches had left) Mike Tomlin has only won 3 playoff games. And two of those wins were against back up Quarterbacks. Currently, Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in 6 years.

    1) Last year I didn't credit Canada for the improved run game at the end of the year because I believe that our OL coach is our "run game coordinator" and owns the running game. So I also think that the terrible running game is more on Meyer than Canada this season.

    2) I think Foster said (yesterday...maybe the day before) that it's hard to pull from the back side when you don't trust that you're not going to get big penetration on the front side. I'm not sure I completely understand his point (seems to me like more bodies in the direction you're running would be goo). But maybe part of it is also that pulling plays are more complicated. I heard in one of the podcasts (cant remember if it was Terrible or Ramon) that players were stepping on each other multiple times in the run game against the Browns. Lots of little stupid stuff (I think it was the Terrible Podcast from yesterday?). If that's true, maybe what they need is less complex, just beat the guy in front of you kind of stuff?

Who knows...since the offense is so bad at everything, it kind of feels like changing anything would be a good idea?

Is anyone else starting to think that they'd rather have a loss where the offense looks like it belongs in the NFL rather than a win like last week? Of course I'd rather have a good win. But to me this year is still more about developing KP than it is about getting to and hopefully winning a playoff game. Wins like the one against the Browns are nice for the record, but I still think we're more in building for the future mode vs. optimizing to win now.

We haven't been throwing to TEs either (5 targets to PF). So if we play Jones at LT, put Moore at one of the TE spots and Washington at the other.

Anything to try to get positive yards in the running game (I think I heard that almost half of Najee's runs have been for no gain or losses).

I wonder if what he is saying is that it is tough to pull as a guard when the center is getting pushed back so quickly that you have to detour backwards, which stuffs everything into the backfield. It would account for players getting stepped on as others are being pushed back into them. My eyes would tell me that so far that has been happening.

finally someone else is talking about it. That long run by Harris he was locked up because no one blocked anyone. He cut back and turned a loss into a long gain. This OL is really really bad. Until that gets fixed you cant really analyze anything else with any sort of accuracy.
    Trolls are people too.
