Is this start on offense historically bad?

At least for us since UFA started?

The last couple of minutes (starts around 10:30) on the video above show that this is the worst O in the league (as if we didn't already know that). I don't know if this is a historically bad start for us, but I don't remember being this bad since I started watching in Noll's last year. But we also have a lot more saturation of the NFL than we did then.

The video talks about "extra points added" (EPA) which is a new-ish stat to measure how well things are going vs. average. NC talks about this metric too. I think people have said it's kind of like WAR in baseball, but I don't follow baseball at all.

    • 32nd EPA on offense. By far the worst in the NFL
    • 30th EPA on the ground.
    • 32nd in passing EPA. We are averagish in passing yards, but it's because we throw so much. 74% passes is 2nd most in the league.
    • 32nd at earning 1st downs (unsurprising since we haven't have a first down in the first !18 minutes of either game we played). Earning new 1st downs (not just converting on 3rd, but getting a new 1st down) on 51% of tries.

I think we've played two pretty good defenses. But I also think this must be a historically bad start on offense. At least for us since UFA started.

So...you know how terrible we are at running the ball? That's the thing we do best on offense.

    All good, coach isn't concerned.

FYI, Doug Whaley on Fan Morning Show now for an hour. Good talk so far. DW thinks Kenny is either pressing because the scheme is bad, or is suffering PTSD from all the hits.

Dorin Dickerson said he still doesn't have the freedom to check at the line and they're running into stacked boxes.

Yea, that quote annoyed me. If you are a part of the process, and there is a problem, then you are a part of the problem.
Having said this, we know by now that what he says in public might be very different than what he does behind the scenes. Though I will say Rooney needs to start the seat warmer on him. Your past only buys you so much future...

We once started with losses of 51-0 and 42-10 to division rivals. We made the playoffs that year. I’m not sure if there could be a worse start than that.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

    My way to early draft:

    1.) Center
    2.) ILB
    3.) WR
    4.) OT
    5.) DL
    6.) WR
    7.) OT

In pictures this looks so, so much worse. We're playing a different game than everyone else.

That picture is sure worth a thousand words. If it doesn't improve drastically this season, that picture should accompany Canada's walking papers.

Same, I was annoyed. Then I wondered if he meant, "unlike them, I have the ability to influence it so I know we're good"

Thing is, the defenses have been so dang good; and the offensives have been equally bad.

You need an offense that tries to score 40 weekly and a defense that tries to pitch a shutout weekly. If this team had a middle-of-the-road offense (or better), they'd be a contender.

We gained -7 yards in the 4th Q.

That’s a bad stat imho. It tells me we’re not even putting up a fight on O when an opposing D should be getting a little worn down.

The play calling is bad but it feels like the effort is almost non existent.

We would have been more effective taking knees on every 4th Q play.

Honestly, I'm hoping for 3-0 wins the next 2 weeks where the defense causes a turnovers that lead to FG... i.e., the offense looks really bad, but the the team still wins
