Schrager: KP - "#1 Breakout Player of 2023"

"He's going to be a guy that we're talking about as one of those young quarterbacks in the same conversation as Trevor Lawrence, same conversation as Justin Fields...."

I'll take the Trevor Lawrence talk but Fields?!? That dude has looked terrible as a passing QB so far in his career.

I think he was just trying to pull some young QB names out of his a$$ on the spot. Fields has generated buzz as a runner and started to improve his passing last year, so I think his name was in that same mental schema - young QBs under 30 who are on the cusp of breaking out.

If Pickett is topping his list of breakout players and Fields wasn't even in his top ten discussion, I'm pretty sure Schrager wouldn't put them on the same level.

Peter Schrager is a nice guy, so I hear. But a football guy that should be listed to closely, he is not.
The Steelers had a great draft in 2023. However better play calling / coaching is badly needed. Tomlin is hasn't won a playoff game in six years and counting. Nor has hired anyone good to his coaching staff. Think about that. Mike Tomlin says, " hell yeah we've got to make some changes. " We are waiting. But Khan and Weidl appear to have better management on the salary cap and focused on the right free agents and draft needs.

Well he has only been a Football insider, reporter, broadcaster, and part of the show "Good Morning Football". But ya not a football guy.

Fields broke out in fantasy football stats but still doesn't look good as a passer, I was wrong on him, thought he'd be great. Will be interesting to see how teams defend him now the 2nd time through the batting order. Gap sound containment focussed pass rush seems the way to go.

Fields has started 25 games already.

Its his 3rd time around and if he doesn’t improve as a passer it will be another miss by Chicago when it comes to QB’s.

I thought he would be better as a passer but again, its Ohio State and until one of them shows me differently I will continue to doubt their ability to produce NFL QB’s.

Their current QB is booty too. I know it was his first start but sheesh, that was ugly.
Find my post for me and help me prove I’m Black

Being in the same sentence as Lawrence is a good thing. Imho Lawrence is a top 10 qb. Could KP get to that point? Perhaps he can however he isn't there yet.
Joel seeing any opinion that does not match his narrative I can understand him taking a shot at Schrager.
I've already seen improvement in KP from a year ago. He looked like a solid vet at Latrobe in full command of the O. He is able to keep his eyes downfield even with rushers around him and when he does escape the pocket it's throw first n run second. And perhaps the most critical factor is he's accurate. That accuracy leads to the YAC they need in this modified west coast O.

Some guys in the media X Gm's, coaches, X QB's / players and a few board casters that know football and have been doing it for years, are good. Read what I said about him closely. Peter seems to be an amiable fellow. He is smooth at broad casting , but IMO he is not an expert and really does not really know football.

I think Pickett is not even the #1 breakout player on his own team. I'd go with Pickens or Warren.

Doesn't KP have to have a breakout season for Pickens to have one?

That would be the logical conclusion. Not sure how Joel would answer that.
