    Does This Bother Anyone Else?

I've watched this a half dozen times and I'm still struggling to see the penalty. But here's what rubs me completely wrong; the league felt it was so egregious they fined Alexander almost $45K!!!

Is it simply because the hit was too hard?! Help me out here....

If this is truly the way they will officiate I think the Steelers will rack up record fines this season.

They were talking about this on Pat MacAfee and it was stunning how bad this is. This was a legal hit and wasn't flagged, so what's with the over-the-top fine?

They are claiming he "launched" himself at the ball carrier; I don't see it, the fine is outrageous. The Steelers should pick up the tab. A fine that large is completely inappropriate and total bull shlt.

He was flagged, but still shouldn't have been.

Can't lead with the helmet. Lucky Alexander wasn't hurt there. That said the fine was way over the top imho.

Yeah, that's the only thing I see wrong with the hit, that he lead with the helmet instead of seeing his opponent and the helmet hit first. Good way to injure himself.

If you freeze it at point of impact you can see the lowered head to the chest.

We might not like it, but that is what the league is going to call. That hit is actually more dangerous to Alexander. Easy neck or head injury scenario.

I agree and I also think it?s ticky tack.

This isn?t that different than what we saw with JH back when they started fining him.

It?s hard cause the ball carrier is gonna end up trying to avoid the hit and tuck his own head a bit by reflex and you?re just gonna have these things.

I get the argument from both sides.

Okay, I never really played football at any highly competitive level but I do know a thing or two about anatomy. From my basic understanding of anatomy, the head is the top most part of the body and if you bend forward to make a tackle the head is going to be the first part of the body that could hit the ball carrier. Someone, anyone, explain to me how you make a tackle without leading with your head? Your hands are going to go around the player but you're still leading with your head. I'm stumped.

So you teach players from the Pop Warner leagues to see what you're hitting to do that you can't duck your head. Head stays up try to strike the blow with your shoulder pads is text book and it gets the job done while being safe. Avoid the compression issue caused by dropping the head as well as the future CTE issue we all know can be a critical problem if too many concussions occur.
