Both statements can be (and are) true.
Size and speed absolutely lead to more injuries. Injuries to the head in particular lead to lawsuits.

oh interesting. I’m not seeing that with my cousins kids thst are close 20 years of age.

they been eliminating kick returns for the last decade or more - that's why they keep moving the place they kickoff from.
