The 2023 Pittsburgh Steelers running game has me very excited!

Gone are Guard Dotson and the journeyman Tackle in Moore jr. They have been replaced and upgraded by veteran free agent guard Seumalo, and talented rookie in tackle B. Jones. HUGE upgrade vs the run and pass. Oh my huge. I don't want to call Dotson and Moore bums but....they were just that as starters. Sucky flag machines and poor run blockers.

IMO Both Seumalo and Jones will open some real holes. Ripping the opponent a new A-hole. Let me tell you.

Rookies in the gigantic TE Washington will upgrade us in the 2 TE as a run blocker sets as will rookie FB Pottebaum. Both players are good blockers. Pottanbaum can be dominant. I dare a defense to play nickel vs. us on down 2! We can and will surprise them by mixing in either player vs. this formation or both in the 1 WR, 2 TE, 1FB formation with our running back. Catch them off guard by when they the pass we should. Situational football. In fact we have several players who can win the individual matchups. Make them stop it...if they can.

Matt Canada can you hear me? The running game is on its way back as a force.

The Steelers had a great draft in 2023. However better play calling / coaching is badly needed. Tomlin is 19-18-1 in last 38 games played and hasn't won a playoff game in six years and counting. Nor has hired anyone good to his coaching staff. Think about that. But Khan and Weidl appear to have better management on the salary cap and focused on the right free agents and draft needs.

The run game became more of a force last season. Two things that held the offense/run game back were penalties and turnovers early in the season. Both got better the 2nd half of the season.

All the talk of the run game potentially improving is nice. Most of the Steelers offensive production and scoring fortunes hinges on KP's development.

One of the worst penalties the Steelers had last season was "ineligible downfield pass". They had 7 against them. This was OL wondering past the 5 yard mark not blocking anyone. Finger pointing to Dotson as the worst offender and he was still doing it at the end of the season.

You do realize who started this thread right?

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

    TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

This is a thread for NEW players. But Harris and Warren will benefit for sure.

Read YOUR title please. No mention of being excited about new players. Just the run game. As Harris the most important part of 2023 running game he should 100% be mentioned at some point in this thread

    That's the way I feel.
From the 2011-2022 season,(A 12 year period that the majority of Cowher's players & coaches had left) Mike Tomlin has only won 3 playoff games. And two of those wins were against back up Quarterbacks. Currently, Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in 6 years.

Steeler fans still loving on Tomlin now, are the same as Dolphin fans in the 90's who were still loving on Shula for what he did in the 70's

I did not mention Warren either. Both players will do better as running backs as the team upgraded two OL players, the TE blocking is going to be better, and we added a FB who specializes as a lead blocker. If Harris doesn't show significant improvement this year, he is part of the problem not the solution. I expect a bump in Harris yard per rush, and increase in his 15 yards + plays.

From 3.8 yards per rush ( good for 41st in the NFL ) to say 4.3 yards per rush. 22 other NFL teams rated 4.3 yards per rush or better. Better now? I hope so becasue the blocking will be much better in 2023.
