He could also wait a year while playing under the tag and see what Burrow, Herbert, and Hurts sign for in the near future. If he wants that big payday, it also might do him some good to play a full season, and at a higher level than what we have seen in 2021 and 2022. He's banking on his 2019 MVP season still being relevant in 2023. As I have said before, not many owners will back up a brinks truck to his door based on his current form. I know all he needs is 1 fish to hook, but good luck with that. It hasn't worked so far.
I think NJ brought up a good point.
My guess is that "not playing under the tag" really means "sitting out for as long as possible while still getting the accrued season" so coming back in week 10.
But who knows. Maybe doing the nuclear option on your relationship with the team forces their hand (worked for Brown).
How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 13 years?
I think that Lamar doesnt have the big deal yet because he doesnt have an agent. But I dont think it has anything to do with his worth or his ability to negotiate. Think about what it would do to the sports agent business and the relationships teams have with those agents if Lamar Jackson gets a huge deal without an agent.
