In a weird type of way Jackson was a home with the type of with the thug like culture in Baltimore. They gave him a top rated defense, a solid O line, clutch kicking and good a coaching staff. The sulky Jackson is asking to cut ties with the Ravens. The trouble for him is that team has two give up TWO first round picks, and won't be as good of a team for him. He is also a running qb who has been hurt in the past two seasons, so you can forget his age. He is damaged goods. I hope the Ravens keep him for a year with no team stepping up to sign him, and them lose him, getting nothing. Lamar won't be happy. The timing of this move is one that you don't drop on team. It is his way of saying screw the Ravens.
The Steelers had a great draft in 2023. However better play calling / coaching is badly needed. Tomlin is 19-18-1 in last 38 games played and hasn't won a playoff game in six years and counting. Nor has hired anyone good to his coaching staff. Think about that. But Khan and Weidl appear to have better management on the salary cap and focused on the right free agents and draft needs.

I think there's a wide gap between saying you won't play on the tag and then actually not playing on the tag.

Maybe he crosses that line, but the point of saying it is to scare the other side into action IMO.

ps. Is the other lamaar jackson fake??
Yep. Just like I think all teams should have been pointing at Brady's contract for the last decade or so and saying "we're just not going to pay more than this until you win more SBs than him".

PM didn't get all he could. Probably because he signed in the worst part of the pandemic when league revenues were down for the first time in forever IIRC.

I don't fault players for trying to get what the market will bear. Just like I don't want the Steelers to ever pay those contracts (and I hope the Rats to).

That's the problem - he's been tracking 1 year behind Watson since their big matchup/late season shootout in college several years ago.

Watson was a year ahead in the draft and I suspect Lamar is eyeing his frienemy for expected contract demands

Iirc. The last day he can sign the tag and not lose a year in his UFA standing is around week 10.
although Baltimore I believe can withdraw it at anytime.
I assume that’s what they’ll do once the season begins.
either way they’ll be screwed this year.
Interesting how all this will play out. Long way to go.

I actually wouldn’t be surprised to see someone give him an offer sheet after the draft. Not fully guaranteed but close to the one the ravens offered. Then the compensation will be 2024/2025 1st round picks.

Maybe so. But the Steelers have firsthand experience with a player that was trying to reset the market and decided it was worth sitting out a season.

I honestly think he'd sit because it gets him free more quickly.

    Absolutely...
But there's a difference if your message is to the the public while negotiating for hundreds of millions of dollars vs a bunch of old, guys reminiscing about their own glory days.

Watson assaulted women, sat for a year and got PAID.

Pretty sure Lamar can sit for a year and not assault women and get an offer in 2024.
