Taylor rapp signing with the bills
I'm not 100% clear how the "4 year vet" contract that we had for Edmunds works. But it sounds like each team gets something clost to $1.5M per year that they can split between guys that qualify. I think they at least have to be on the same team for the last 4 years.
Dave at the depot said that the only two guys that qualified were Edmunds and Gentry. And that maybe we were trying to bring them both back and split that bonus money (that doesn't count on the cap) between them.
But even if we were only giving it to Edmunds, it becomes hard to match a contract that just goes a bit above the value. Because if the contract is too big, I don't think they qualify for that any more.
So, I think if the max 4 year vet contract was something like $2.3M (making up numbers), we'd actually be charged something like $1.0M against the cap (which is pretty close to zero after displacement).
But, if we match a contract that was $2.4M or $2.5M, then we don't get that ~$1.5M "extra" reduction in cost because the contract doesn't qualify anymore. So that contract costs the full $2.5M against the cap (or something a little more than $1.5M after displacement).
If that's true, then maybe that's why we wouldn't make what appears to be a small increase in a contract for a guy who's at least a genuine NFL starter?

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:
TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

colbert confirms we made an offer. Edmunds decided to move on.
