Post combine and week 1 of free agency mock draft.

With the activity in free agency and guard now less of a need and the need for ILB greater I thought I update my mock draft.

The Steelers trade down in round with new England getting our their first round pick and Steelers gaining New Englands 46th ( 2nd round ) ( 76th ) 3 round and 4th round ( pick 107th ) pick. And next years 2024 2rd round pick.

    This gives us this year:

    2nd round pick #32
    2nd round pick # 46
    2nd round pick # 49

    3rd round pick # 76
    3rd round round pick # 80

    4th round pick # 107
    4th round pick #120

    7ht round pick #236
    7th round pick # 243

    We select:

2a) OT D Jones - A huge RT with gigantic hands, long arms, and muling ability. Did not give up a sack last year.

2b ) ILB J Campbell. A 3 down ILB. Can shed blocks and tackle, cover, and is very smart and a leader.

2c ) CB Philips. A nickel corner with great feel and smarts for the game, and great play making ability. Has 9 career interceptions, 4 of which for scores.

3 a ) DT / NT Dexter. An active and big player who gets a lot of tackles and is hard to move. Not a traditional NT.

3b ) QB Bennett. Showed a good arm velocity at the combine. Quick as a cat. Hard to sack. Mobile enough to make the defense pay. Tough and accurate. SEC battle tested

4a ) G Vohress. A super strong player who can block on the second level. Got hurt as the combine so he falls to us.

4b ) S Brown. A very productive player who fills the stat sheets. More than the sum of his parts.

7 A. P Turk Has a big leg. Good hang time too.

7B ) ILB Heyward. An active type who made plays all over the field. If the name looks familiar yes he is related to iron head.

The Steelers had a great draft in 2023. However better play calling / coaching is badly needed. Tomlin is 19-18-1 in last 38 games played and hasn't won a playoff game in six years and counting. Nor has hired anyone good to his coaching staff. Think about that. But Khan and Weidl appear to have better management on the salary cap and focused on the right free agents and draft needs.

    You’re giving 30 spots and only getting a 2nd,3rd and 4th ?

    that’s poor value

I don't think we'll trade out of the 1st round.

We seem to place a high value on the 5th year option.

I appreciate having names to read up on though.

I agree. Despite all reports, we probably sit tight.
From the 2011-2022 season,(A 12 year period that the majority of Cowher's players & coaches had left) Mike Tomlin has only won 3 playoff games. And two of those wins were against back up Quarterbacks. Currently, Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in 6 years.

Steeler fans still loving on Tomlin now, are the same as Dolphin fans in the 90's who were still loving on Shula for what he did in the 70's

    no… just, no…

No way would I trade out of the first, especially with 3 to 4 QB’s being projected to go in the top 15.

Now, the 32nd pick is where I think we could see us trade back but totally abandoning the first round is crazy talk. Especially to use one of the extra picks on a freaking back up QB and another on a punter.

    Hard pass.
Find my post for me and help me prove I’m Black

    but its Stetson Bennett!!

another misguided mock to take a QB. At least he didn’t try to move up to get a RB in the first.. lol

Someone will drop to 17 so no thanks on trading that spot away.

Maybe 32 is a possibility to trade depending on who is there to take.

Only hit is round 7. I would LOVE this.
No need for trade just do it too make heads REALLY explode around here.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

    TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

if the big 3 LTs and big 3 CBs are gone I’d be willing to trade down. But high to mid 20s.
    not in the 40s.
There we could still pick up cb banks or OTs like Harrison or wright

I too am remaining optimistic that someone is going to drop to us at # 17.
