This reeks of they just didn't want him. 3 year, $33 isn't that much - it's less than I expected the team to have to pay for him

or after paying Watt and Fitz we aren’t trying to spend much on D.

I think this could also mean we are going to try and sign Highsmith to a team friendly deal?

Knee jerk reaction? We lost our slot corner. We wisely did not match the offer.
The Steelers had a great draft in 2023. However better play calling / coaching is badly needed. Tomlin is 19-18-1 in last 38 games played and hasn't won a playoff game in six years and counting. Nor has hired anyone good to his coaching staff. Think about that. But Khan and Weidl appear to have better management on the salary cap and focused on the right free agents and draft needs.

I think Depot Dave predicted between $11-$13M / year.

I agree that it seems like this was a deal I thought we'd offer.

Seems like either (1) we didn't want him at that price or (2) he didn't want to come back?

I do imagine that we'll try to use the leverage of Highsmith not being UFA yet to get better than market terms on a deal this offseason. Will depend if he wants to put a bet on himself or take the money now.

Dunno. That puts him at around the 15th highest paid CB in the league this year. I don't think he was worth that as a #2 CB.

Looks like Dulac will have to eat crow again. Didn't he say that if Sutton thought he could get $10 million per in FA, he was crazy?

Hate to see Sutton go, but no way could we afford that.

I'll miss Sutton but we got a much better player in Peterson and because he was cheaper it helps our salary cap. A great decision and signing by management.

    Very well put.
Essentially what I’ve been trying to say buried in WAY TOO MANY words.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

    TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher
