I think this is the right move.

I think they want to show him that no one is willing to offer a fully guaranteed contract. We'll see though. The Browns made a really stupid deal for Watson, so maybe someone's got a "hold my beer" moment coming up.

I think the Ravens made the right move. The Browns and Broncos are on the hook like the Packers with Rodgers. The money that teams are handing out can potentially ruin a teams chances to compete for several years if the a player suffers a serious injury, becomes disgruntled, retires ect.

It can be good and terrible for the fans.

Jackson is reportedly seeking a fully-guaranteed contract and it's possible no NFL team will actually be interested in delivering that to him.

Jackson has become his own financial problem to teams. No team wants do deal with his terms. I hope he sits out the year and the Ravens get NOTHING at all for losing him. He could be there " MeVon " Bell.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. Art Rooney II, get a new head coach.

Our 2024 draft is grade A.

It will be interesting to see if anyone tries to steal him.

And if not, does he play under the tag or agree to a long term deal?

no.. the 82 Mill is guaranteed for the first 2 years. This way they can get out of it if he sucks.

He’s going to make $41 mill per year the first 2 years. Jones demands $45 year and settles for $40 mill over 2 years?

I lost a bet about Najee gaining 1300 yards.

"Our head coach has failed to win a playoff game for seven years in a row. His game day strategy, culture of divas, in game decisions, clock management, player evaluation, hires, and affinity with sub par starters at RB, P, and OL are holding the Steelers back. That standard remains the standard"

He's not going to sit out. He'll play under the tag. Hope that they don't tag him a second time (which I think is phenomenally expensive for QBs) so he can hit UFA.

Who knows what happens if he gets to UFA. When was the last time a very good QB got their 2nd contract on the UFA market.

Look how dramatically Watson got overpaid and he was "just" being shopped in trade...while the commish was calling him a sexual predator (although maybe that only happened publicaly after the trade)

If I was Lamar, I'd take the huge payday he's being offered now.

But if he makes it to UFA, he'll get an enormous payday.

Hard for me to relate to the ego that can turn down $133M guaranteed. GUARANTEED. Money that most people can't fathom in 10 lifetimes.

I used to think about it this way too.

But, he's already earned ~$27M. So, he's already earned way more money than a reasonable person would spend in a lifetime (even if we do realize that the take home is probably something like 40-50% of this).

In that case, if I was doing a job that was likely reducing my lifespan and my healthspan, I'd probably want to sell my health and longevity for as much as the market would bear.

Although if it was me, I'd probably just say F-it and walk away. Although it's probably impossible to understand what any of us would actually do in this situation, we can see that people in these situations very rarely take home team discounts. I'm sure that "it's a business" is something the league teaches players very, very early.

much can happen in a single elimination game to put it all on 1 contract.

I do believe that 3rd contract is the killer but the 2nd one usually leaves enough room because you can spread out the cap hit. I do know fully guaranteed eliminates that ability.

But I also keep hearing how the cap is a myth and it can be manipulated if you really want to keep players. Saints have bene in cap hell forever and somehow they
keep finding money to retain or get new talent.
Right on the mark. Being competitive every year keeps you in the game and gets you on national TV games

He won't sit out, but he doesn't have to go to off season workouts or training camp. He can just show up the week before the regular season starts.

He has lots of leverage in his favor
