Funniest part is you keep restructuring them meaning unless you're ready to take some dead cap hits down the road, you end up resigning them to lessen the impact.

It's comical when I look at these contracts. Dak has a dead cap hit over 36 mil after his contract in 2025, Cousins over 28 mil dead in 2024, Tanny over 9 mil dead in 2024 and another 4 mil dead in 2025. So now watch as these teams either extend those turds or try to deal them to someone else LOL.
I posted a while back that if a HC/QB doesn't win a SB in their first 5 yrs together, then it ain't happening at all. That should be the drop dead target for Tomlin/KP.

By the second contract time if a QB doesn't show he can play when the stakes get high, I start looking for less expensive alternatives where the drop in play isn't that great, and dip back into the draft. Avoid the types of scenarios teams like Dallas, Vikes, and Titans have found themselves in. Sign these types where you have an out after a season or two like what Seattle and the Raiders just did with Smith and Jimmy. I'm not a believer in kicking the can down the road with average QBs.

Good discussion here, gents. I think we're all on the same page. If Kenny is just a top 12-ish guy that you need a load roster to win with, strive for better.

I think your dead money point is a great one.

    Guys get overpaid.

Then probably restructured to free up cap space

Then you either need cap hell (and probably blue the team up) or an extension.

This isn't really relevant to anything in particular, but I wonder if Stafford regrets not signing at baker value.

He left a ton of money on the table or of loyalty, and it sounds like the Rams are trying to get rid of him now.

This is what happens when you have a recalcitrant franchise QB holding your team hostage:

And personally, I'm loving the news out of BAL...!
