Do we really need to spend a high draft pick on receiver?

Going under the assumption that Johnson is not going to be a coaching headache, I think fans will be pleasantly surprised by Austin's play. He was a tough cover in camp. Pickens, 'Muth, Johnson, and Warren/Harris will get 85% of the targets next year. They are the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, at 4th most targeted players. IMO Austin will prove to be a tough cover and has the speed to break one and get favorable match ups. Think about it before you mock draft a receiver early.

The Steelers had a great draft in 2023. However better play calling / coaching is badly needed. Tomlin is 19-18-1 in last 38 games played and hasn't won a playoff game in six years and counting. Nor has hired anyone good to his coaching staff. Think about that. But Khan and Weidl appear to have better management on the salary cap and focused on the right free agents and draft needs.

If healthy, I think Austin will be a huge plus to the offense. I have been a fan since day 1 because i watched him throughout college...but if healthy.

If Jordan Addison is sitting at #17, I would consider him very hard. Just look at the impact reuniting Burrow and Chase had. Johnson may not be a coaching headache, but he is still dynamic AND UNRELIABLE! We do need to improve the WR grouping. It isn't deep and once you get to the third guy, it is very unproven and very much journeyman-like

NO! Absolutely not. It would be hugely disappointing to take a WR in the first 3 rounds. O line, CB, D line, and LB are all bigger needs than WR.

+1 Okay that makes three posters who feel this way.

Got to agree with our first 3 picks I don't see it.
Sims I thought showed he's serviceable. Too Anthony Miller they believe he's also serviceable as his signing shows. So some depth there along with Boykin.

If Jordan Addison or Jaxon Smith-Njigba is there at #17 you have to strongly consider it. Would Burrow be Burrow without Ja'marr Chase?

I think we battle the Bengals for the foreseeable future for the AFC North. Their tandem is Chase-Higgins. Does anyone in here seriously think DJ and Pickens are even close to them? I like Pickens but have no faith in "wrong-way Diontae".

As far as Austin goes I will keep an open mind bit I've seen these "mighty-mites" crash and burn before, does Rainey or Archer ring a bell?

How many catches did Rainy or Archer have in college? Not nearly as much and they were not running the type of routes or catching difficult passes like Austin did, not did either produce the type of reciveing yards that Austin did. I was 100% against the Archer pick by the way and Rainey was had off the field problems.

But WR in round one in 2023, no way! I see Pickens as a Chase type of player, but not Pickett as a Burrow type of player.

Austin will fit nicely in the slot / as a 4th options for us. He was impressive in camp before getting hurt.

Honestly...I'd be happy if we just wait until round 3.

But I think we'll use one of the 2nds on a WR. I hope we don't use the 1st.

Since Tomlin is still HC and Canada OC, they'd be crazy to waste any picks on a WR. Why would they? So the WR can get 2 targets a game like Pickens?

its 2023. We don’t need serviceable. We need another playmaker.

I think if not rd 1 then definitely rd 2.
