    Steelers Close?!

The Steelers have had 10 one possession games this season and are now 5-5. Two wins against #10 scoring defenses (CIN & TB tied at #10). Losses against the #4, #7, #4, #26, #4 scoring defenses (NYJ & BAL tied at #4). MT is owner of 3 of those wins, KP 2.

A good showing the rest of the way could be a nice building point going into next season for some of these young players.

It all comes down to the continued development of our offensive line.
If we can keep having 10 minute, 20 plus play drives that end in touchdowns, we will beat alot of people..
I know folks cried the last time i said this.. but "Running out of gas" is a real thing in the NFL... and our offense certainly helped our D stay fresh yesterday...

Hopefully young guys get to learn from these games. Especially Kenny, who I assume will be good to go next week.

I also hope we start playing some more younger guys, but since we're still mathematically alive I don't think we will unless there's injury.

I saw alot of positives yesterday. Liked the run game and the OL looked solid there. It was nice to convert some key 3rd downs. However, I have to keep this game in perspective.

          1. We beat a team with the same record as ours, from a division that's probably the weakest in the NFL.
          2. Until that last FG, we were still only up by 5 points.
          3. They threw on our secondary most of the day, so in spite of the balls out performance of the front 7 against the run, the Panthers passing game gashed this secondary.
          4. The Panthers were 1st and goal twice and settled for FG's. You could arguably give as much credit to the suspect play calls (i.e. QB draw on 3rd from the 8 ) as you could our defense. So if only 1 of those instances had resulted in a TD, this would have been a different game in many aspects.
          5. Hats off to MT for no turnovers, efficient passing percentage, and he was pretty accurate. However, the Panthers ALMOST picked 2. One fell in and out of the hands of a defender after a tip. We were fairly deep in our own territory on the play. So, whew that was a close one.

I do think there were many positives to take away from the win. Harris showed he can be a force when healthy, and Warren is an EXCELLENT compliment. He reminds me of Ray RIce back in the day, he's strong and fast and very difficult to stop on first contact. DJ continues to get open, didn't have any droppsies.

We got the breaks yesterday, and I'll take those days. There's still ALOT of work left to be done. The Clowns run the ball better than Carolina as do the Rats, and I suspect we'll see a healthy dose of LJ on the rematch. Who knows about the Raiders, it's always weird when we play them. Any who, just my usual 2 cents.

Seems about right given how young we are as a team. Some of those close losses should turn into wins next year. Which is why I think we are closer to turning things around than some believed based on our record.

If we had a bunch of blowouts I would understand wanting to blow it all up but we have been in all but about 3 games this year.

I'm sick of the "young team" excuse. Some of the best teams are the youngest teams, so why don't they need the "we are a young team" excuse? There are 16 teams younger than we are, many of which are much better teams than we are, so that excuse is bull sh-t.

As of roughly 8:15 p.m. on cutdown day, when we finished collecting data from all 32 NFL team website rosters, the Cleveland Browns had the youngest team in the NFL. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the oldest roster in the NFL this year, followed by the Arizona Cardinals. The Eagles ranked 9th, as in, 9th youngest.

Who are younger teams than the Steelers?

              - KC Chiefs
              - Eagles
              - Cowboys
              - 9ers
              - Ravens
              - Bengals

They are ALL younger teams than Pgh, yet they are ALL significantly better. Why don't they need the "We are too young" excuse?

Spot on. And MT did play a lot better with some reps under his belt.

                  Notice anything about your list?

All but one has a franchise QB with a lot of experience. Makes a difference.

of course you are sick of it. You are a miserable person.

                    KC has Mahommes.

Eagles have Hurts in his third year but have yet to win anything significant with him yet. Might be their year.

Cowboys have Dak but have won nothing

Ravens have Lamar in his 5th but remember, everyone on here says they also have won nothing yet.

Cincy has a #1 pick in Burrow and Chase was a top 10 pick… but what did Burrow do his rookie year?

49ers have a legit nucleus of young players that were top picks in the trenches. I think this is the best example of a team with impressive coaching to scheme a team to wins.. but I also can’t imagine you being impressed. during all those 6 win seasons… lol.

I still think they need a better LT. Moore is ok against weaker defenses but he really struggles against the better ones. And he's not visibly improving against them either.

One of the negatives against the "tank for a better pick" idea is that a team that is 4-13 is typically (not always) much further away than a team that is 8-9 or 7-10. Right now this is a middle of the pack type of team. Can't compete with the real contenders in this league, but can play with anyone else. Teams that pick in the top 5-10 can't consistently play competitive football with average teams. When everything breaks right then sometimes they can and will beat them, but overall are still noticeably below the average teams.

I think that this is being kind. I don't want a guy who the best we can say is "ok against weaker defenses". I want a guy who we almost never talk about.
