Pickett hit on this yesterday, too - talking about how it's really hard to execute 16-play drives with no mistakes. Those long, clock-eating, mistake-free drives are Tomlin's vision and they're not attainable or sustainable, especially with so many young players.
It's not a sustainable philosophy for any offense of any experience level.

But Pickett sees that no one is the job of the head coach and it's impossible for him to succeed without it happening, so he figures he has to step up and DO the job Shades is supposed to be doing. Tomlin is too busy being everyone's buddy, no time to be fulfilling the roll as head coach. He's too busy dancing to racist and misogynistic music.

I got to laugh at fans who think team captains are truly chosen organically, by the players, with no influence by the coaches or front office. That's hilarious. Trubisky was tabbed as the starter, and by design, the team captain from the day they signed him. It was all set in motion from the top down. Shades meets with certain players, those certain players relate to the other players, and voila, the players the honchos want are chosen as team captains. But their plans fell apart when MT sucked and fans clamored for KP.

Now the "captain" chosen by the team isn't even a player who plays.

Never have I seen or heard a rookie do this for an NFL head coach. I'm sure the pro Tomlin people here have plenty of examples. Some might say it has reached the point where the " inmates are running the ayslum "

Locker room heated arguments at half time, two players saying they are going to hold people accountable. And that's just only what we know.
The Steelers had a great draft in 2023. However better play calling / coaching is badly needed. Tomlin is 19-18-1 in last 38 games played and hasn't won a playoff game in six years and counting. Nor has hired anyone good to his coaching staff. Think about that. But Khan and Weidl appear to have better management on the salary cap and focused on the right free agents and draft needs.

When you hear about Canada being given free reign to hire the other offensive assistants the picture gets clearer. The players know he's incompetent, which is bad enough, but then you add in all the power he was given with his track record and empty resume? Looks like one of the biggest nepotism moves ever.

Pickett does what he's supposed to do... He leads the team when they're between the white lines... That's his ROLE... I've disavowed you of that claim Re: the music.... I'm sure he plays what the team likes to listen to... (but not during practice, Claypool...) I doubt they're even aware of some of the things that are said... Heck, I liked "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds," and "Puff the Magic Dragon" but I never espoused drug use... lighten-up, Francis....

I did not hear or read Pickett say that he was going to do Tomlins job. I did hear him say he wanted to step into the role Ben had for the last decade
