Weidls background is personell so one would assume that part is his contribution.

But to YOUR horror hiring a money guy as GM1 signals a strengthening of Tomlins voice.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

    TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

Weidls ( in my eyes) is the real GM. He is the talent evaluator of the two. So I too agree that Tomlin's voice has gotten stronger because the overall GM position has gotten weaker. Khan is and has been the numbers guy; So him doing the traditional GM things that most GM's have been doing is out the window.

From the 2010-2022 season,(A 13 year period that the majority of Cowher's players & coaches had left) Mike Tomlin has only won 3 playoff games. And two of those wins were against back up Quarterbacks. Currently, Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in 6 years.

Steeler fans still loving on Tomlin now, are the same as Dolphin fans in the 90's who were still loving on Shula for what he did in the 70's

I thought from the beginning that this was going to be a split job - Khan and a personnel guy. I'd say that the biggest move here is that they chose Weidl over Hunt.

He may be called the Assistant GM, but I don't think that Weidl will be asking Khan's permission or opinion on who to draft. If he wants to sign a FA or make a trade, to question is more likely to be "can we afford to do this?" rather than "can I make this move?".

I wonder if they offered it to Hunt but maybe he wanted a bigger job?

I think it would be interesting to go back and look at the transition to Colbert and see if it felt like Cowher had more input into draft picks or not. It certainly was billed at a power struggle between BC and TD. I wonder how much more power Cowher actually had afterwards. Did he say anything about that in his book?

My guess is that we have a process and will continue to follow the process.

But I think it makes sense that the HC who's been there for so long will get deferred to more often than he does now without Colbert as a counter balance. Under Colbert I felt like it was a collaborative process but the GM had the final say. I think that will still be true, but I think it might be easier for Tomlin to lobby a new guy for a player he wants than it would have been for Colbert if there was no true consensus.

So now we have....three GMs? Is this the Friends and Family Plan for general management?

Probably...I"m sure he ask to be a traditional GM. That's what anyone in his position would ask for.

For those wanting to pretend Tomlin has all the power now, what happened to the ‘Steelers way’ of all positions having equal say come draft day?
    Update:
    In the last decade:
25% of the league has won a super bowl. The steelers are not one of them.
20 teams have as many or more playoff wins as the steelers.
25 teams have won at least one playoff game, none have a worse playoff win percentage than the steelers.

I wonder if Omar Kahn moving up will hinder our cap situations in the future? He was very good at this.

I've always been of the opinion (even seen indication of it) that Colbert had the final say in the draft.

By choosing a guy who's background is in money crunching, not talent evaluation, Tomlins voice just got louder.

If we hit home runs or strike out, I feel NOW Tomlin should get more credit and blame for roster construction.
Expect more brothers and players from VA/MD.

The "Steeler way" is Rooney making the final call, but not necessarily taking accountability for it. It's been that way for decades. Anyone not seeing this isn't trying to even look. Shades wanted Willis. Who did we end up with? Cowher wanted Shawn Andrews, who did we end up with, Thank God.
