    Sounds like Tomlin wins.

Kudos to him for a completely under the radar power move. Seriously, Tomlin is a boss. Pushing the GM replacement until after the draft means this is Tomlin's draft in my mind. And these player...Pickett, Pickens, Leal, Austin, Heyward, Robinson, Oladokun...they were Tomlin guys more than Colbert guys.

I think everyone on here should love this. It's on Tomlin from here on out imho. He's in control of his destiny. He got his rookie QB. He got his FAs that he wanted likely given that KC was a lame duck. And he's got a bean counter as his GM who isn't much of a football guy from what I can tell. And he's no longer saddled with Ben.

He also seems to be getting the coaches he wants. Austin and Canada seem like Tomlin guys that he wanted in place. Flores seems like a Tomlin guy that could even be a future successor depending on Tomlin's next step.

    I agree. Tomlin wins...again!

I don't know jack **** about Tomlin's son and I probably won't live long enough for the Tomlins to replace the Rooneys as majority stockholders. But this sea change is as inevitable as the withering away of the State.

Wonder why Weidl would take what is essentially a lateral move. Maybe felt like PHI FO was on the decline with five execs leaving this off-season?

Capologists like Kahn are easier to find than good player GMs. I hope Weidl's voice is at least equal to Tomlin's. Otherwise it's all on Tomlin going forward.

If true this is indeed a great move.

I temper my emotions a bit as this is being reported by Abititi Kinkhabwalla. She is not the most trusted name in sports news.

    I hope it is true.

I thought it was going to be Hunt, but figured Kahn was 2nd.

Wonder if the idea for all the interviews was always to find the asst GM. They had to know Hunt was leaving if they didn't pick him (took several interviews recently).

Kahn should have been Houston's GM, but they are pretty disfunctional.

Hopefully they helped us out by paying on him.

Maybe he gets more power here is he's the player evaluation guy?

This is all based on nothing but speculation.
I’m willing to bet if things don’t go well, it won’t be his fault tho.
    Update:
    In the last decade:
25% of the league has won a super bowl. The steelers are not one of them.
20 teams have as many or more playoff wins as the steelers.
25 teams have won at least one playoff game, none have a worse playoff win percentage than the steelers.

I have no problem with Khan. IMO he’s been the GM in waiting for years.
Solid financial pick, questionable football pick. We interveiwed lots of football guys. No comment on the " assistant GM " What will his job entail?
The Steelers had a great draft in 2023. However better play calling / coaching is badly needed. Tomlin is 19-18-1 in last 38 games played and hasn't won a playoff game in six years and counting. Nor has hired anyone good to his coaching staff. Think about that. But Khan and Weidl appear to have better management on the salary cap and focused on the right free agents and draft needs.

This is my earlier point. I will suggest it applies more going forward. Tomlin genuinely respects Colbert.

But starting NEXT season? I think having a numbers guy as GM rather than a personnel guy, is about a decision to give Tomlin power. We added Weidl but to a lesser role.

I think this is Tomlin's way of addressing the Parcells desire to "buy the groceries" without taking on the full load of GM.

If he really respects Weidls input it might work.

But my guess is that Tomlin will get the final call. It is what HE wanted.

For good or for bad, this is going to absolutely be Tomlins team like never before.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

    TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher
