    Hey art

can you fork over another $10M this week for Mitch.
we want to spread out his cap hit.

hey Mitch. Here’s another $10M up front.
but the next 2 years your salary is $1M for the season so we can spread out your cap hit. Sound good?

I believe most backups like Mitch, Dobbs, etc can win as backups if they aren’t forced to carry the team on their back.
So it only took you a few games to make up you mind on Mitch. How many games do you give Pickett? He's a game manger who lived on the defensive turnovers ( most interceptions in the NFL from a defense ) who did not pass for many yards or score that much. Or complete a high percentage of his passes. That is what he showed.
The Steelers had a great draft in 2023. However better play calling / coaching is badly needed. Tomlin is hasn't won a playoff game in six years and counting. Nor has hired anyone good to his coaching staff. Think about that. Mike Tomlin says, " hell yeah we've got to make some changes. " We are waiting. But Khan and Weidl appear to have better management on the salary cap and focused on the right free agents and draft needs.

FWIW, I think you give a rookie a lot more time than a high-pedigree guy who already failed at being a franchise QB.

AND Felt was among the biggest Pickett fans on the board. So he probably came in biased against Mitch to begin with.

The Steelers are far under the average team positional cap spend for QBs even with MT's contract. The average team spend is a tick under $21M for QBs (with the avg of 2 QBs on the roster). The Steelers are <$14M. Even signing a 3rd QB for a couple million they'll still be far under the average. This is the beauty of a rookie QB contract.

Still want to see MT stay with the team but if the Steelers are offered a respectable trade for draft picks I wouldn't be sad to let him go.

Mitch has over 50 game starts in his career.

I had my mind made up on Mitch when I watched him at UNC. I’ve seen much more of Mitch than most as someone living in North Carolina. I didn’t follow his career with laser focus with the Bears but I’ve seen enough to know what he is capable of as an NFL starter.

Bias since his underwhelming year at UNC and feeling he was overdrafted by the Bears.

MT is our best option at back-up QB. He has experience and can win games. We have already seen that KP may have durability issues. Need someone like MT. Extend him a couple years to spread out the cap hit and sweeten the deal with bonus money.

I agree. He was waaaaaay overdrafted.
From the 2011-2022 season,(A 12 year period that the majority of Cowher's players & coaches had left) Mike Tomlin has only won 3 playoff games. And two of those wins were against back up Quarterbacks. Currently, Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in 6 years.

Steeler fans still loving on Tomlin now, are the same as Dolphin fans in the 90's who were still loving on Shula for what he did in the 70's

I’m kind of waiting to see if Jameis Winston is going to get cut. If Winston gets cut, I’d like to have him over MT.

I don't see any team offering much of anything unless QB injuries have them in a real bind. As a matter offact, I don't see a team offering anything for MT with his current contract unless they are in a major quandary. He was the 2nd highest paid backup last year. Do you think he deserves it?
