I like the idea of bringing in good people from outside the org. I think it's what we should have done when we hired Fitchner. And I could convince myself that's kind of what we did with Canada (if I squinted a bit).
I think that's what good leaders do.
And I think we've been at our best (under Cowher and Tomlin) when we had great Xs and Os coordinators under great motivation coaches (which is what Cowher and Tomlin were/are).
Wow, just read up on the new rule. You can't even promote a coordinator from within without interviewing outside the organization first. This is a rule that is easily corrupted, and some unscrupulous team (read: New England Patriots) is going to exploit it to their advantage.
Yes, if the Post Gazette is correct the rule states you must interview at least 2 minority candidates from outside the organization before you can hire.
