It's actually much closer to WR money (with Hopkins at $27.25)

    For comparison:

I would much rather spend cap space on an elite defensive player than an elite WR.

That link says $80M fully guaranteed @ signing.

I think that means that we guaranteed more than 1st year money if the report is correct.

all things considered, I think its a fair deal for both sides

happy to have him locked in for his prime years

Glad the deal has finally been completed

    BUT

    $80 million in guaranteed money???

Hope he lives up to it, because we could pay several very good players with that amount

and that's a lot of cash to flush in the event of (God forbid) a career-ending injury

some of you guys seem to think ole art is gonna ask for your PayPal addy when one of these deals get done. cracks me up

these random musings about spreading that $$ around for these random players is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. you got lucky as hell, you found a top 3 defensive player in the entire league in the mid 20s. no trouble off the field whatsoever, never caught smoking a blunt on the way to the team plane

he played out of his mind for 4 seasons and rewites the record for sacks 8n that time. he wants a fair market deal on a 2nd contract and you guys clutch your pearls like some boogeyman jumped out of the closet

the better question is why the fukin hell you wouldn't pay him

Falls between Tannehill and Jimmy G for AAV. Would be the 12th highest paid QB by that measure.

Steelers’ OLB T.J. Watt overruled his agents who believed they could get more money today, marched into the office of Steelers president Art Rooney and told him they had a deal. Then the NFL’s new highest-paid defensive player excused himself and announced he had to go work out.

He took a team discount. He should have held out for more
    Update:
In the last decade, 25% of the league has won a super bowl(the Steelers aren't one of them) and now 50% have as many or more playoff wins as the Steelers.

    TJ is set for life.

I respect the decision he made to take slightly less and get to work.
