    Matthew Stafford anyone?

Stafford and Lions to Part Ways

Detroit Lions will pursue trading Matthew Stafford.

    JOHN MAAKARON
    UPDATED:JAN 23, 2021

    It has finally occurred.

The Detroit Lions and Matthew Stafford will part ways.

According to NFL Network, "The #Lions and Matthew Stafford have mutually agreed to part ways this offseason and the team will begin exploring trade options in the coming weeks for their star QB."

Stafford was the first overall pick of the Detroit Lions in the 2009 NFL draft.

Unfortunately, his tenure did not result in success for the organization in terms of playoff success.

The team only appeared in the postseason on three occasions, losing all three contests.

With the Lions organization rebuilding, it made sense at this point in time for Stafford and the organization to part ways.

A trade for Stafford could yield the draft capital that Detroit is looking for, since the team only has five selections in the 2021 NFL draft.

Even though the organization did not win the big games in the postseason, Stafford endeared himself to the city based on his toughness and commitment to the game of football.

On numerous occasions, the veteran quarterback played injured and performed admirably.

There will be no shortage of suitors who will line up for the services of a quarterback who can make all the throws and possesses elite arm talent.

Colts or Pats could be a reasonable landing spot . I feel Belicheck doesn`t want to go through the growing pains of a Rookie QB and hopes to hit on a vet for one last run. Bill is getting long in the tooth .

Remains to be seen what management will do. There are a lot of options that are going to present themselves. We don’t know how management sees itself; in a full rebuild or simi-reconstruction.
From the 2010-2020 season, (A 10 year period that the majority of Cowher's players & coaches had left) Mike Tomlin has only won 3 playoff games. And two of those wins were against back up Quarterbacks.

Dolphin fans in the 90ís who wanted to hold on to Don Shula for what he did in the playoffs in the 70ís...
Are the same as Steeler fans (of 2020 ) holding on to Tomlin for what he did in 2008, with Cowher's players & coaches

A healthy defense and the same HC hard to see anything more then a reload.
Add in changes last off season with the draft, training camp, preseason. Also this off season with covid implications. Cap issues also. Just a reload IMO. Get to the playoffs and see if they can make a run like they did as a wildcard team.

You may be right; but management has shown an inability to want to move on from the old to the new in some areas.
