Did anyone else notice that Berry's avg last year was better than Colquitt's???
Not sure I see benefits from this move

that's a huge difference. net average is just a small part of a quality punter. The ability to pin deep, place kicks out of bounds, hang time - all add up. I've always considered the punt to be the first and often most important play of the defensive series. It has the potential to set the defense up for success or failure. I think Berry's inconsistency in that respect is what cost him the job.
2014 MNF EXEC CHAMPION!!!
This is probably a push at punter (maybe a slight improvement given the consistency of the two players).
And we freed up some cap space.
This sounds like pretty good asset management to me. Although it's likely that we'll have to replace Colquitt sooner due to his age.
I'm not sure why you think the FO can only think about one thing at a time. If we can maintain the same quality at DT and shed some cap space, I think we should do that too.

Colquitt is more consistent, less apt to drop or shank a punt in a critical spot. However, he's 38 years old.
Steelers will be looking for another punter sooner rather than later.
Exactly. The problem with Berry was not apparent every time he punted. He is a pretty good punter most of the time. It is just those key shanks that kill momentum. Who would you rather have? A guy who consistently kicks the ball 40 yards every time or one who kicks it 45 four times in a row, then shanks it for 20 from deep in his own zone the fifth time? Both guys average 40 yards but one guy will put you in a big hole around once a game.
