I'm not sure where this all ends.

I wish they’d just play Renegade in place of the anthem. Everyone likes Renegade - except for 1 guy on the Trib board that used to hate it.

I’m not a fan either. I kept hearing about it and when I finally heard it.. huh? That’s what gets us hype in 2020?
Tomlinís coming back so what can you do?

And will anything happen if someone kneels while it's playing?

Completely antithetical to the spirit of unity this country needs to find. Ugh.

Just don't bother playing any song. Especially in Pgh.

There's nothing wrong with the song. It's a beautiful anthem.

In a few years, when social consciousness turns in that direction, we might add another anthem for the Native Americans. You can't deny, they got the short end of things and, they too, might wish to be singled out for special recognition.

After that, how about including a theme song for Hispanic Americans? They haven't gotten the best treatment the last few years. Maybe we'd better add something to celebrate their heritage.

Oh, and following that, we probably ought to think about adding add another anthem for Asian Americans. We don't want to deny their special place in our country. Some of them got a raw deal during WW2, and some of them are pretty upset about Trump's "Kung Flu" remark. Better throw them a bone, too.

Heck, let's just add an extra hour or so before the game can start, to be sure we don't leave any group out who needs their own anthem.

As MOS quipped, where does it end?

I think I agree with Flasteel: "Completely antithetical to the spirit of unity this country needs to find."

Really a song that talks about "Lift every voice and sing" is only about Black people and "antithetical to the spirit of unity"??? The song is about unity, you and others are hung up on the fact that it is sometimes called the "Black national anthem", listen to the song and explain to me where excludes any race or even mentions a race. When you can show me how that song only applies to only black people then we can talk about your slippery slope argument of giving every race a song.

I agree that the song doesn't speak only of blacks. It's a beautiful song. As I said (if you had bothered to actually read my post) there's NOTHING wrong with the SONG. It's BEAUTIFUL.

BUT ... WHY is the song being ADDED? Hint : Because it's KNOWN (as you yourself admitted) as the "BLACK national anthem." Headline after headline that has popped up the past few days AFFIRMS this. "NFL to play Black anthem before National anthem." "NFL plans to play Black national anthem before Week 1 games." "Burgess Owens opposes NFL playing unofficial Black anthem before games." Etc., etc. Do a simple Google search and you can't miss it.

Even the League's own WEBSITE says, in the announcement, "Black national anthem to be played week 1."
