Why is every defense of Tomlin use, 'the odds of the Steelers driving 85 yards for the win'?
They think that if you get the ball first in OT, you have to score a TD or else you lose.

I think what took so long after the coin toss was the fact that the refs were so perplexed at the level of stupidity displayed by Tomlin's decision to kickoff rather than take the ball.
Tomlin: Let's unleash hell and "mop the floor" with the competition.

And for the record, none of Hodges' scoring drives yesterday were longer than 47 yds.

Because after the Steelers stopped the Ravens all they needed was a FG to win. So, by taking the ball 1st to win the game you need a TD. The Ravens offense, while struggling, does have a decent chance of moving into Tucker's range if the Steelers take the ball and only get a FG and the game would go on, maybe the Steelers win, maybe they don't.

47 would have been good enough for the FG.
Probably easily surmountable with more playing time and getting more into the flow of the game too.

Quoting some old stats are we? Try this from the WSJ:

Since the NFL changed its sudden death rule a decade ago, teams that have won the coin toss have gone on to win just 50.4% of the games.

So, receiving is still the correct decision.
