Iron...How has Sayles looked, I remember him sticking out ( to me ) in the preseason last year...Reminded me of Homie, a lil undersized, but strong as Bull..Former standout wrestler who unfortunately would be great as a 4-3 DT...About #285 pounds if I remember right...

He has not been getting a lot of reps. Obviously not running with the 1's. He has not been on the ground, something that I'm always looking at for D linemen so he hasn't jumped out there from a negative standpoint. Looked back on my notes to see if some of the 1 on 1's were a" push" which I won't always put in because it really isn't news n saw he had "a push" 1 on 1 with rook Johnson who has been impressive. So he has been a bit quiet but I'll try to give him a bit more focus today and let you all know how he performs.

So I report that our DB's are on the jugs gun at practice and I'm praising their initiative. Only to find out I'm wrong and they have to do the drill because now its mandatory. Glad their doing it n they need it but it's not optional like I thought.

We are now officially one week into Pittsburgh Steelers training camp and in just over one week, the team will play its first preseason game. Training camp has been eventful for Pittsburgh and the team as a whole seems to be much more focused and working as a unit. Here are our early winners and losers from the first week of camp.

    Winners

    WR Diontae Johnson
    LB Devin Bush Jr.
    G/C B.J. Finney
    CB Cam Sutton
    LB Ola Adeniyi

So far it has been all about the rookies. Wide receiver Diontae Johnson and linebacker Devin Bush Jr. have been as advertised and more as they are already working their way into starter reps. But the star of training camp so far has been edge rusher Ola Adeniyi, who has been all but unblockable as he works in a rotation absent of T.J. Watt.

Veteran cornerback Cam Sutton doesn’t seem at all intimidated by the presence of Artie Burns or the rookie Justin Layne. He could end up the primary backup on the outside. As for guard B.J. Finney, he continues to play starter-quality football and really solidifies an elite offensive line.

    Losers

    TE Zach Gentry
    LB Vince Williams
    CB Justin Layne
    WR Donte Moncrief

Not everything has been great this week. The problems that showed up on film for rookie tight end Zach Gentry are still evident. He struggles as a blocker and has limited tools as a receiver. As for fellow rookie Justin Layne, he has tons of athleticism but is still learning the position and with Burns staying on the roster has a climb to get reps as a rookie.

Wide receiver Donte Moncrief makes the list because he’s dealing with a finger injury, which has kept him out of practice. With guys like James Washington and Johnson playing so well, every practice he misses puts him behind. As for linebacker Vince Williams, his stock takes a hit because of how well Bush and Mark Barron have played.

I don't know who Curt Popejoy is and I only coached up to the high school level but I'm not seeing what this guy is seeing.
Johnson , Sutton yes have stood out. Gentry, Williams , Moncrief and Lane have not been bad at all. Adeniyi is excellent moving forward but when he drops he is a liability. In 1 on 1's and in 11 on 11 this is obvious to anyone at camp every day.
So it's only a week of camp n everyone is entitled to their opinion. Regarding Bush today 8/1 which I'll write up in a bit he had his first good day. He is learning the MIke n hasn't been playing to his speed until today where he started to flash.
My word to anyone getting camp reports is get multiple reports because not everyone s reports are all that accurate. Too it's camp so you can't see everything that's going on myself included. Just a word of caution to all.
