    The SMG Lazy Mock

In years past, I have devoted many, many hours to studying players often as soon as the college season kick off. Just couldn't pull that off this year. With that said, the players I do promote I'm very high on. I've made it very clear that I'm a huge fan of Haskins. If I were in the Steelers draft room and he dropped past 10, he would be my pick with a trade up. He will be a franchise QB in the right system. But, I'm not and for whatever reason the Steelers FO has yet to recognize my scouting prowess. Therefore, this is a slightly optimistic, but quite possible Mock draft. And I didn't want to give a lazy late round evaluation. Therefore I will stick to 5 rounds.

    1) Devin Bush-ILBquite possible we won't have to move up to grab him. Depending on how the front end of the draft plays out, Devin White could slip to the Bengals and White could slip to us. We might not find a trade partner to leap frog the Bengals for either White or Bush. In this scenario, the Steelers give up a third and grab Bush, who is a speedy athletic ILB who instantly upgrades our D on day 1, starter day 1. We all know who he is, therefore an additional break down is not needed.

    2) Darnell Savage-S-quickly rising up many draft mock boards. I'm a massive fan of Savage who has all the skills to be a pro bowl safety at the next level. Sticky cover guy with ball skills, and the only knock is his size.

    3) Jachai Polite OLB, elite pass rusher who needs to improve other elements of his game. Questions about character, his poor combine may cause him to slip on draft day. But this guy has a motor and elite twitch on film. Ignore the combine 40 or the weight issues...he was nursing a hammy injury. He plays with elite quickness, and is a day 1 pass rush specialist. He is a game changer when he wants to take over.

    4) Kahale Warring-TE, I have a mid second round grade on him and I see no love for him from anyone but Keylargo. Good call btw Key. 6 foot 6 and plays like it. He can high point a ball with the best, hands catcher, smart and savvy seeing soft spots in zones, red zone threat, decent route runner and has some functional speed especially for his size. Love this guy.

    5) Gary Jennings-WR, Yes the Steelers may think they need a speed guy and go after a McLaurin or a Parris Campbell. I would be ok with either of those two. But, I do not think WR is a massive need this year despite the loss of AB. We did well to get a speed guy in FA. I like Jennings size and grit. His film reminds me a little bit of JuJu with some of the same knocks on him coming out of college. I think this guy will be a tough possession WR and an instant fan favorite.

Got to listen to the college fan base. Your best scouts seen every game. I listen to WVU about their players. So, what do you think about David Long?

Nice write up Shawn. McLaurin has Steeler written all over him with the versatility n speed. I believe we could double down on wr this year.

Thanks. I agree...he does...and I would be very ok spending a third on him. Instant offense. The guy can fly.
