“I’m so tired of Le’Veon," DeCastro told reporters (h/t ESPN's Jeremy Fowler (https://twitter.com/JFowlerESPN/status/1038909446146203649)) after Sunday's game. "I’m so tired of it. Let’s just worry about the guys in here. I know you guys have stories to write and what not. I love Le’Veon, but we gotta worry about the guys in here. They’re the only people that matter to me."

Steelers to meet with sleeper prospect WR Miles Boykin

By: Curt Popejoy | March 20, 2019

No team is better at finding mid-round wide receiver in the draft than the Pittsburgh Steelers. Guys like Mike Wallace, Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown are just the highlights of how well the Steelers can find and cultivate receiver talent.

The 2019 NFL draft could be the next opportunity for Pittsburgh to bring in a sleeper receiver and turn them into a star. Despite using second-round picks in consecutive seasons to draft wide receivers, the Steelers must go back to the well in 2019 after the Antonio Brown trade.

A prime candidate for the Steelers this year is Notre Dame’s Miles Boykin. According to reports, the Steelers will meet with Boykin and this is a great thing for the Steelers.

Most casual fans found out who Boykin was when he had a monstrous scouting combine. This should have sent plenty of people back to look for Notre Dame games to see if everything matches up.

What you found is a huge target with great hands and surprising speed who was grossly underutilized in the Fighting Irish offense. Boykin is a willing blocker and was wise to declare given the style of offense Notre Dame plays.

Boykin needs polish, especially in his routes but it is hard to knock him too hard considering his limited opportunities in college. If Pittsburgh can land Boykin in the third or even fourth round they might have the next great sleeper Steelers receiver.

Behind this week guys. I will have about 60-70 hours of time in at work once saturday is over. I will try and get some caught up Sunday. 6 steelers included Tomlin and Colbert at WVU yesterday. 2 WRs, a TE and a LB to watch there. My mock draft isn't really that crazy this year....

Report: Steelers Have Massachusetts WR Andy Isabella Scheduled For Pre-Draft Visit

By Dave Bryan
Posted on March 22, 2019

The Pittsburgh Steelers pre-draft visits might just get underway as early as this Sunday, according to a Friday report on Twitter.

According to Connor Livesay of SB Nation on Friday, Massachusetts wide receiver Andy Isabella has an official pre-draft visit scheduled with the Steelers for Sunday.

Isabella, who reportedly had a strong pro day on Thursday, is considered to be one of the top slot wide receivers in this year’s draft class. At the combine, Isabella measured in at 5086, 188-pounds with 29 3/4-inch arms and 8 3/8-inch hands,. He ran his 40-yard-dash in 4.31-seconds while in Indianapolis and registered 15 reps on the bench to go along with a 36.5-inch vertical jump and a 10’1″ broad jump. His short shuttle time at the combine was 4.15-seconds and his 3-cone time was 6.95-seconds.

Prior to the combine, Isabella reportedly had a strong showing at the annual Senior Bowl and it’s a good chance the Steelers talked to him some there in Mobile, AL. In his four seasons at Massachusetts, Isabella registered 231 total receptions for 3,526 yards and 30 touchdowns. 102 of those receptions for 1,698 yards and 13 touchdowns came in 2018.

The Steelers currently have quite a few slot wide receivers under contract for 2019 in JuJu Smith-Schuster, Ryan Switzer and Eli Rogers. Smith-Schuster, however, can play on the outside as well.

Report: Steelers to meet with Maryland S Darnell Savage Jr.

By: Curt Popejoy

With the news the Pittsburgh Steelers are planning to release veteran safety Morgan Burnett, adding depth at the safety position is a need. The Steelers have Marcus Allen but he’s more of a box safety and his coverage skills are limited. So the Steelers have been making the rounds during college pro days looking for help on the back end.

It appears the Steelers have found their way to the University of Maryland and want a closer look at Darnell Savage Jr. including an official visit. Savage is an under-the-radar prospect with solid NFL traits. In terms of the Steelers, Savage’s ability to create turnovers is a significant selling point. Savage had four interceptions in 2018 and was second-team all conference.

The Steelers have Terrell Edmunds and Sean Davis in the starting spots but getting Savage is a hybrid safety/cornerback and would be a perfect play in the dime sub package.

Report: Steelers set to meet with Texas DL Charles Omenihu

With GM Kevin Colbert also in attendance for the University of Texas Pro Day on Wednesday to watch the defensive lineman workout

By Simon Chester Mar 28, 2019

After making the trip to Austin for the University of Texas Pro Day on Wednesday, it would appear that Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert spotted at least one player he would like to get to know better.

As per Jared Tokarz of NFL Draft Insider, the Steelers have scheduled a pre-draft visit with defensive lineman Charles Omenihu, one of the 30 out of town prospects Pittsburgh will host in 2019.

Projected to go as high as the the middle of the second-round of the draft, many scouts seems to think his best fit would be as a base 4-3 defensive end. But having played a range of positions from a 3-technique to a 9-technique, his versatility could potentially make him a good fit for the Steelers considering they like their defensive lineman to be able to play in a variety of fronts.

This scouting report from Joe Marino of the Draft Network suggests a player who might still have a lot of growth ahead of him.

“Omenihu brings a loaded toolbox to the table that makes him a versatile defender with inside/outside pass rushing and run defending upside. Showcasing continuous growth throughout his college career, Omenihu enjoyed the best season as a senior and enters the draft process playing his best football. Omenihu does have some size limitations when working inside and some tightness in the hips that present challenges on the outside, but his length, hand usage and effort serve as a strong foundation that should factor him into mix early in his career. By year three, Omenihu has the upside to be a versatile playmaker in a defensive front that is multiple.”

It would appear that Omenihu was not the only Texas player who has caught the Steelers’ eye this year either, with linebacker Gary Johnson also receiving some attention from Colbert and company. A player who could figure to be a viable option for Pittsburgh on Day 2 of the draft if they miss out on Devin White and Devin Bush in Round 1.

Report: Akron LB Ulysees Gilbert III Scheduled For Pre-Draft Visit

By Alex Kozora
Posted on March 29, 2019

Add a seventh name to the list of draft prospects reportedly invited for an official Pittsburgh Steelers’ visit. According to Damond Talbot and NFL Draft Diamonds, a site that specializes in “small school” talent, Akron linebacker Ulysees Gilbert III is making an official “30” visit to the Steelers in the near future.

From Talbot:

“Akron LB Ulysees Gilbert III will attend the Cleveland Browns local day, and has been invited to a pre-draft visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers, per sources.”

Interest in Gilbert shouldn’t come as a shock. A week ago, we wrote the team met with him following the Zips’ Pro Day. He had a stellar workout, reportedly turning in a 40 time in the 4.4’s, 39.5 inch vertical, broad of 10’6″ and three cone of 6.94 seconds.

Despite standing in at just over 6’0, 228 pounds, he has good length – 32 1/8 inch arms – and as his testing indicates, a tremendous athlete who works best in space. His start/stop ability combined with his hard chase to the football let him rack up over 350 career tackles, 8.5 sacks, and three picks. Gilbert had five defensive touchdowns in college, the type of playmaker the Steelers are sure to be angling for.

In some ways, he reminds me of L.J. Fort, an easy mover who tends to get swallowed up by base blocks and does his best work playing clean. Fort signed a three-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles near the start of free agency.

Draft Scout has Gilbert projected as a 5th round pick but given his impressive workouts, his stock could be on the rise. He’s the second linebacker reported to have a visit scheduled, joining TCU’s Ben Banogu. In Pittsburgh, Banogu would play on the edge while Gilbert would slide in at the Mack linebacker spot.

Report: Steelers set to host TCU edge rusher Ben Banogu on pre-draft visit

The Steelers will reportedly welcome the pass rushing prospect to Pittsburgh as one of their 30 pre-draft visitors

By Simon Chester
Mar 30, 2019

The list of names set to have pre-draft visits with the Pittsburgh Steelers continues to grow as we get closer to the end of the college pro day schedule, with edge rushing prospect Ben Banogu the latest player linked to the Steelers this offseason.

As per Benton McDonald of TCU360.com, Banogu will be making a trip to Pittsburgh to meet with the Steelers as one of their 30 pre-draft visits in 2019.

Projected to be a Day 2 selection with most experts, Banogu appears to have the size and athleticism teams look for, but has drawn criticism from some scouts for his hand usage and hip flexibility that could limit him against NFL caliber offensive tackles as a pass rusher.

This scouting report from Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network suggests the young prospect may yet have some untapped potential in him as well.

“Ben Banogu is one of the most high-upside defenders of this year’s NFL Draft. Banogu has dynamic explosion and he’s got effective change of direction skills as well. Played in a very gap-disciplined defense at TCU, Banogu wasn’t necessarily allowed to roam free as an aggressive pass rusher, which has stunted some of his growth. In a new, more aggressive environment, Banogu could develop in time to be a high impact pass rusher.”
