Hey Tomlin/Colber take note...playoff week 1 it's still defense that wins

At least in the wild card round. Even the high scoring Chargers won by playing creative, sound defense.

All teams moving forward have solid defenses.

So keep on doing what you have done and I guarantee you the window will close with nothing to show for it.

We have been using high picks on D for a while. The issue isn't that we don't understand that D is important, it's that we keep missing.

Definition of insanity. They need to change what they are looking for in what constitutes talent/skillset.

Take note having a kicker who can get the job done is what wins games... wow bears are crushed

The question is can they not find good talent or are they unable to develop it?

I can answer that...I collected Steelers draft picks since 2011. I posted my analysis here earlier. It's finding talent 40% of all picks are out of the league. Meaning they weren't good enough to be developed by other teams as well.

Position # Starter Depth Other team out of league
    D-Line 8 2 4 1 1
    Linebackers 12 3 4 0 5
    Secondary 15 2 4 1 8
    Total 35 7 12 2 14
Position % of total Starter % of ttl Depth % of ttl Other team % of ttl Out of League % of ttl
    D-Line 23% 6% 11% 3% 3%
    Linebackers 34% 9% 11% 0% 14%
    Secondary 43% 6% 11% 3% 23%
    Total 100% 20% 34% 6% 40%

It takes a team effort to win.

Was coming back to post this.

Bad kicking was one of our two biggest issues this year.

    That's cool data.

I wonder if there is similar data for the league to see how they compare.

I find that it's easy to focus on the picks we miss, but it would be good to have a baseline for what to expect.

Already posted elsewhere; 69% of draft picks have no significant team contribution in the NFL.
