Antonio Brown apologizes for furniture throwing incident, says charity donations made in settlement

A lawsuit against Oakland Raiders wide receiver Antonio Brown over furniture throwing from a balcony was reportedly settled back in April. Brown posted a statement to his Twitter account Monday night apologizing for the “incident” and said an undisclosed amount had been donated to charity as a part of the settlement.

“The legal dispute between Ophir Sternberg and me has been resolved, with a confidential sum of funds being donated to charity,” Brown wrote. “I am sorry that an incident occurred. I apologize for any statements we made in court filings or otherwise to Mr. Sternberg and family. I with Mr. Sternberg my best with regard to future endeavors and through this settlement, seek to make amends with Mr. Sternberg and family.”

Sternberg, a founding partner and CEO of Lionheart Capital, LLC, claimed that his 22-month old son was nearly struck by airborne furniture being throw out of an upscale condo complex in Miami. The furniture in question included an ottoman and large vases.

Brown’s side of the case argued that the suit was a “shakedown attempt” and “nothing more than a shameful attempt by a struggling real estate developer to exploit his minor child.”

Those comments would appear to be some of the statements Brown was apologizing for in his statement Monday night.

To what extent the NFL is reviewing the case and a separate claim by the owner of the complex for damaged property remains unclear. The league had said they are monitoring the lawsuits but had not commented on the settlement of the case between Brown and Sternberg.

AB is very fortunate that ottoman didn't kill that kid, or hurt someone else. If it had, Brown might be incarcerated right now rather than living the high life and making YouTube videos.

This is right from the Mr. Big Chest playbook.

Antonio Brown is mad that he didn’t get a coveted “99 rating” in the “Madden NFL 20” video game.

And he’s letting us know. Only four players got the best rating possible in the game, and Brown — last year’s cover guy for the game — is not one of them.

Receiver DeAndre Hopkins of the Texans is the only offensive player to be rated as elite. Bobby Wagner, Aaron Donald and Khalil Mack got 99s on defense.

I haven’t seen what A.B. got as a rating yet. But it could be a 98. Regardless, he’s upset. He’s also mad that he allegedly didn’t get paid everything he was supposed to get paid for being on the cover last year.

The former Steeler tweeted, “Madden shorted me on my check for the Madden 19 cover now they short my ratings.”

Maybe Brown didn’t know taxes sometimes get taken out of those checks. Just like he didn’t know he was supposed to show up for the Week 17 game against the Bengals last year.

Or that the speed limit on McKnight Road is under 100 mph.

New trio

Back when Brown and running back Le’Veon Bell were still in Pittsburgh, many in NFL circles thought that the Steelers had the best offensive skill position trio in football.

Now that those two are playing elsewhere, the Steelers no longer hold that designation, even though quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is still in Black and Gold.

That said, NFL.com likes how Bell and Brown have been replaced. The league website rates Roethlisberger, James Conner, and JuJu Smith-Schuster as the 11th-best grouping in the NFL when it comes to quarterback-pass catcher-running back combinations.

Sam Darnold, Robby Anderson, and Bell have the Jets rated 21st. Brown, Derek Carr, and rookie running back Josh Jacobs are 13th in Oakland.

The Saints threesome of Drew Brees, Michael Thomas, and Alvin Kamara are ranked first.

Terry Bradshaw On Antonio Brown: ‘I Cannot Stand Divas’

There are many who would still argue that Terry Bradshaw is the greatest quarterback in Pittsburgh Steelers history, and perhaps the greatest offensive player. Maybe only second to Joe Greene as the greatest and most important player the franchise has ever had.

That said, he hasn’t always portrayed himself in the most flattering light, a trend that has gotten further and further toward the occasionally embarrassing sign as he has gotten further and further away from his playing career.

Bradshaw has put his foot in his mouth a number of times over the years, commenting on issues that he frankly has no business doing, but he offered some strong opinions related to Antonio Brown while on The Jim Rome Podcast that I think will be met with a lot of agreement here.

The first point, about which he was adamant, is that the Steelers are going to be a worse team on the field without him. This isn’t a very controversial point, though it has been debated while attempting to factor in every variable imaginable.

His second point was more personal, and more passionate, and it came after Rome asked him how he felt about the way Brown forced his way out of Pittsburgh, the Steelers ultimately trading him to the Oakland Raiders.

I cannot stand divas. Can’t stand ‘em. I don’t want to play with ‘em. I don’t want anything to do with ‘em. This game is too hard without my having to babysit and force plays to a guy just to keep him happy. If he cares about the football team, he’ll shut up. He will keep his mouth shut and play the game. That’s my thinking. I’m 70. I’m not 30 or 31. I’m 70. And that’s the kind of player I want to play with. I don’t want to play with a diva.

Tell me that quote isn’t going to be met with a round of applause by some here, perhaps many. Brown is a player who has openly admitted that even Heath Miller has had to tell him to shut up when he’s complaining in-game about his numbers.

“Now, today’s game is not like it was in the 70s”, Bradshaw went on. “Players are not like they were in the 70s. Players now have money. With money comes a certain amount of what they think is power. And all of a sudden it’s about their brand, and all of a sudden it’s about their numbers”.

“It’s not about winning. It’s never about winning. If you think it’s about winning, you’ve lost your mind”, he said. “It’s about ‘where’s my money? Where’s my money? Where’s my money?’. And then when things aren’t going right in the game, they’re throwing garbage cans on the sideline. They’re pointing fingers, screaming and hollering”.

Expressing a lack of understanding of how this behavior comes about, the Hall of Famer concluded his thoughts with the following: “teams win with character. They do not win with divas”. I’m sure somebody will point out that the Steelers won two Super Bowls with Hines Ward, and none with Brown.
