seems strange that 8 of our 13 official visits have been spent on projected 7th rounders or UDFAs and only 1 on a first rounder

I have historically used NFLDraftscout for my rankings. If you have a better ranking option I will look into it as I think NFLDraftscout has been kinda dropped by the wayside lately. If they don't have a projected round then I list it as a FA.

I am not 100% sure but, perhaps they have gotten the majority of the people they wanted to talk to at the Combine and Pro Days this year and these visits are for the ones that they could get to, or weren't at the combine. The visits process could be evolving.

I just did a quick glance and in 17 they had 6 7-FA in 16 they had 7 and in 15 they had 8. So right now we are right around the average. Now if the rest of the visits go the same direction, that would be odd.

    Edit 2:

Maybe they don't plan on having any mid round picks and they expect to have extra 7th rounders? Could it be evidence of a trade up in the 1st to get someone?

I am not 100% sure but, perhaps they have gotten the majority of the people they wanted to talk to at the Combine and Pro Days this year and these visits are for the ones that they could get to, or weren't at the combine. The visits process could be evolving.

I just did a quick glance and in 17 they had 6 7-FA in 16 they had 7 and in 15 they had 8. So right now we are right around the average. Now if the rest of the visits go the same direction, that would be odd.

NFLDraftScout projects B.J. Hill as a 2nd rounder, but you listed him as a 7th round prospect.

no complaints at all on your rankings. i truly appreciate you putting this together every year. it is cool to go back and see how it unfolded. i was just making an observation. none of us will truly know what their plan is but it just scares me a little(up to this point) that so few 1, 2 and 3 have been brought in. seems like you really need to nail your first few rounds and if you get a player or two to actually make the 53 after round 6 is a bonus. maybe the next 15 visits will be top tier guys
    over paid janitor......
    and proving it every year.........

We did send our big guns (Colbert, Tomlin, and usually a coordinator or position coach as well) to the Pro Days of most of the big guys, and several of those top players dined with the Steeler brass the night before those Pro Days as well, so we are certainly doing our due diligence.
