Payton Manning

Classier than most of our opponents. Thought this was a cool story:
As he continues to add onto his legacy, Peyton Manning recently stopped to pay homage to an old teammate while showing respect to an opponent.

At the start of his career, Manning was once approached by Titans linemen, Bruce Matthews, who told him that he had played with Peyton's father, Archie, who enjoyed a 14-year career with the Saints, Oilers, and Vikings. Now, some seventeen years later, Manning had the same conversation with Steelers' linemen Cameron Heyward following the Broncos' 23-16 win over Pittsburgh in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs.
"A weird thing happened to me after the Steelers game," Manning told Mark Kiszla of The Denver Post. "After the Pittsburgh game, I was shaking hands with Ben Roethlisberger and James Harrison, when big No. 97 from the Steelers, Cameron Heyward, comes up to congratulate me.
"I told Cameron, 'Hey, you're a great player.' And then it dawned on me. So I said: 'I played with your dad. I played with Ironhead.' How about that deal? When Bruce Matthews told me he played with my dad all those years ago, I thought there was no way I'd ever be able to tell anybody the same thing. But isn't that something? It's come full circle."
It certainly has come full circle for Manning, who, in the midst of his final hours as an NFL quarterback, took time to share a special moment with Heyward, who lost his father to cancer ten years ago. It was a moment that symbolized Manning's peerless class, as the surefire Hall of Fame quarterback took time to share a special conversation with a Heyward, a rising NFL star that will surely carry that moment with him for the rest of his career.

I kind of wish it was easier to hate Peyton Manning as a person...between this and the Terrible Towel story...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

that's the problem. there's nothing there to hate. great talent, pedigree, teammate, historian, spokesman, champion - the list goes on and on. As I've said eisewhere, he's everything that's right about the NFL. I know there are a few stories out there - but nothing that's ever even created the whiff of scandal. He will finish his career playing in 4 superbowls, perhaps winning 2. He's a first ballot no questions asked HOF'er. When he is done with the NFL he will likely become even more popular. Shoot, even his SNL skits are dang funny.

this is a great superbowl for me. there's no one there I hate. Let the broncos win their third. It still won't erase the fact they've lost 5. Let peyton win his final game and leave as a champion. Or let a new era begin with cam and riverboat ron and the first lombardi for the carolinas.

it's all good.

I used to mock him as Fetal Position Peyton (his favorite position when he heard footsteps).

Then when he came back after neck surgery I dropped that, and had all the respect in the world for his courage (though maybe not for his judgement, if stories that his head could fall off at any moment after any hit were to be believed).

Now, I hold him in even higher regard ... because he kept the Cheatriots** from another SB.

Happy riding off into the sunset Peyton Manning, you deserve it!

Manning BLAMES his teammates, blames the OLINE, showed NO CLASS when he lost both Superbowls, refused to shake hands with the better team.. Pathetic. Refs always protect him and favor him. Overrated choke artist with the most post-season losses of anyone.. one of his "records". but other than that, he's alright by me..

I always remembered him throwing his offensive line under the bus after that playoff loss to the Steelers. He seems to have come a long way since then.
