Ian Rapoport is reporting 98 million with about 8-10 million more in escalators.
Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.

Report: Roethlisberger deal has base value of $99 million

On Saturday morning, a source with direct knowledge of the Ben Roethlisberger contract told PFT that the value of the contract would not be leaked, at the specific direction of the team and the player. So we pointed out that it could mean the deal may not be a great one for the player.

And then someone changed their mind about whether they wanted the certain aspects of the deal to be leaked.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, whose 2013 reports that Ben wanted to be traded rubbed Roethlisberger the wrong way and arguably were planted by the team to get the player to say publicly that he’ll never leave Pittsburgh, the contract has a base value of $99 million over five years, with escalators that can push it to $108 million.

But that really doesn’t tell us what the contract is really worth. What’s the signing bonus? The range for franchise quarterbacks has been set at $25 million to $37 million.

What’s the new money? Roethlisberger already was due to make $11.6 million in 2015, and the franchise tag would have cost the Steelers $22.074 million in 2016.

Also, how much is fully guaranteed at signing? Typically, the only guarantees the Steelers provide in veteran deals are paid in the signing bonus, possibly because ownership doesn’t have the cash flow to fund now future full guarantees.

Five years, $99 million sets the broad parameters, if Roethlisberger plays all five years of the contract. If it’s only two or three, how much will it be worth? If he has a career-ending injury, how much will he get?

The best way to properly assess the contract will be to assess the full contract, not the base value and the maximum based on triggers not yet known. Eventually, that information will come, and that information could change the perception of the deal, dramatically.

Case in point: Colin Kaepernick’s contract initially was leaked to Rapoport as being worth “up to” $126 million with $61 million guaranteed. Then the truth came out, and it was a very far cry from being such a great deal.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

We knew it was coming, but still great to see it. He has his flaws, and he's a bit of a meathead, but Roethlisberger is a competitor and a winner. I'd take him over any QB in the league - Brady, Brees, Rodgers, even Manziel. We will get No. 7 with Roethlisberger.

Even Manziel, eh? That's some high praise right there.

@AlbertBreer: As @RapSheet said, Ben Roethlisberger gets $99M over next five years. As I understand it, could be viewed as a four-year, $87.4M extension.

@AlbertBreer: That puts Ben Roethlisberger's new money average at $21.85 million/year, which lands him behind only Packers QB Aaron Rodgers.

@AlbertBreer: Also, Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger gets $65 million over the first three years of the deal (2015-17), which is a record.
