i just dont see how you can be concerned about shamarko thomas and have no worries at all about landry jones. its being intellectually dishonest, they were both 4th round picks and one of them actually got snaps and was a pretty good ST player in his rookie year. and this idea that we drafted landry jones with zero expectations until his 3-4th year borders on ridiculous. if thats the case, why draft him at all? you can find servicable back up QBs very easily, IMO. without Ben this team isnt winning dick regardless. seemed like a wasted pick then and looks like one now

like i said, time will tell but it certainly doesnt look promising
The idea was value...you pick a guy in the 4th round who was given a first round grade by the NFL's advisory committee...it's an inexpensive gamble you take with the idea that in 3-4 years, he will be more than serviceable...

He sucks. Not a Steeler. Wasted a 4th round pick.

For what it's worth, after drafting Tom Brady in the 6th round in 2000, the "football genius" Bill Belichick has used a 4th round pick on QB Rohan Davey in 2002, a 6th round pick on QB Kliff Kingsbury in 2003, a 7th round pick on QB Matt Cassel in 2005, 3rd round pick on QB Kevin O'Connell in 2008, a 7th round pick on QB Zac Robinson in 2010, a 3rd round pick on QB Ryan Mallett in 2011, and a 2nd round pick on QB Jimmy Garoppolo in 2014.

He's had a Hall of Famer as his starter, and still used 1 second, 2 thirds, 1 fourth, 1 sixth, and 2 sevenths (and the one with the most productive career was one of the 7th round picks, Matt Cassel).

Meanwhile, after drafting Ben Roethlisberger in the first round in 2004, our "brain fart trust" has used a 5th round pick on Omar Jacobs in 2006, a 5th round pick on Dennis Dixon in 2008, and a 4th round pick on Landry Jones in 2013.

That's it. Two fifths and a fourth. Not great players by any means, but really our 3 post-Ben QB selections are no essentially no worse than what the Patriots got out of their 7 post-Brady QB selections, and all of the guys we took were on day 3 of the draft.

How much draft capital did we spend on the QB's during the Ben era compared to how much New England spent on QB's during the Brady era? I bet Tom might have won more Super Bowls if they used that 2nd, two 3rds, 4th, 6th, and two 7ths on weapons for him to throw to, or defensive studs, instead of backups to him.

Can we all calm down about using a 4th round pick on Landry freaking Jones already? The 4th round occassionally gets you an Ike Taylor or a Larry Foote, but more often than that, it gets you guys like Thaddeus Gibson, Tony Hills, Ryan McBean, Orien Harris, Fred Gibson, Matthias Nkwenti, and Danny Farmer.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

    what logic?
Because one other team really dicked the draft by wasting multiple picks on a backup qb when they had a franchise qb we should be happy the steelers only wasted 3 ?
steelers = 3 ring circus with tomlin being the head clown

why should we give Shamarko the same benefit as a back up QB?

Pretty sure Shamarko will see the field in some packages this year.... he already has NFL snaps under his belt.

I don't think we should define Shamarko by his play this year but the expectations for role players should always be above the expectations for a back up QB.

who said we should be happy? Oh, that's right..no one did. LOL...

and the Pats got an 11-5 season out of Cassel and traded him for the 34th pick.
