If Cortez Allen steps up this year, the Steelers will find a way to keep him...
Next year, Richardson will have a year in the system working with Coach Lake...William Gay will still be around...
Also, a lot of the top CBs in the 2015 draft are at the 6' and above threshold that the Steelers seem to look for in their CBs for the most part...
They may not be in a hurry to rush Richardson, but they are 1 injury away from him seeing significant playing time and 2 injuries away from him starting.

Every team is one or two injuries away from having to use guys they hadn't planned on using.
Yea.. but is every team 2 injuries away from having a 5th round CB that has never played in the NFL as their "best option"... No.

What if Shaq Richardson becomes Terry Hawthorne 2.0? A 5th round pick who didn't make it out of camp and STILL hasn't signed with anyone? We should have at least taken a second corner to hedge our bets like we did with Keenan Lewis & Joe Burnett and Curtis Brown & Cortez Allen...that way if one of them sucks, we still have another chance of getting a functional player out of the other guy.
Unsigned free agent corners still on the open market who we may be able to sign post June 1 once some of the Woodley dead money comes back onto this year's cap (with age in parentheses).
Asante Samuel (33)
Jabari Greer (32)
Terrell Thomas (29, but likely has the knees of a much older man due to multiple surgeries)
Drayton Florence (33)
Aaron Ross (31)
Dunta Robinson (32)
Eric Wright (29)
Quentin Jammer (35)
Dominique Franks (26)
Jerome Murphy (27)
Aaron Berry (26)
It could be a possibilty the Steelers look at a FA CB. Perhaps after some teams start to release players again. However, I hear they like A. Blake to push at a positional role. So if we are looking at Taylor, Allen, Gay, & Blake to go with McCain & Richardson...That may be a solid group. With the additon of McCain, the Steelers have 4 CBS with experience as starters for 2014.
Anyone have intel on Aaron Berry? Went to HS in the Pittsburgh area and then played for Pitt.
Berry played for two years in Detroit...
