First, show me where Archer gets Injured too odten ? He had a early Ankle Injury last year that caused him to miss 4 games. Other then that...where has he missed any games because of Injuries ? Also his fumbles...yes he had a issue with them...but early on. Of his career recorded 13 fumbles....10 of those happened in his first 2 seasons. In his All american season of 2012, he had only 1....and 2 last year, one of which was the Kent State QB's fault, but the fumble was credited to Archer.
So you see my good man, you are a Uneducated Moron. And that's as nicely as I can put it. You act as if the Steelers selected this kid way too high....really ?.......according to who ? What nationally known credited scouting service had Archer way way lower then a top-100 prospect. ? Frank Cooney, a NFL scout who has been scouting for over 35 years had him ranked as a early 3rd rounder. So did Gil Brandt and Bill Polian. As well as ESPN's Todd McShay and Mel Kiper.
So, are they ALL wrong ?...and you are so right ?....even when I just proved you don't have a clue ?
Oh, I can find some logic...just not a whole lot. I agree with you about the fumbling. It's no-doubt an issue that needs to be addressed. The rest of your points are uninformed drivel.
You think he's frail? I would love to see you post a video of yourself putting up 20 reps of 225. Dude is strong and tough.
Per Steelers.com - Running backs coach James Saxon considers Archer “as tough as any kid I've been around".
You think he's an injury risk based on what? His ankle injury last year? Do you feel the same way about Tuitt?
Here's what CBS Sportsline had to say about that:
Regardless of what position he winds up in the NFL, Archer is undoubtedly one of the nation's elite playmakers. If not for an ankle injury suffered on the team's first offensive series of the 2013 season, he may have shattered Kent State's records for all-purpose yardage and scoring. Even with the injury, Archer was recognized with All-MAC honors as a receiver and kick returner, a year after a dominant 2012 campaign at running back. Archer leaves Kent State with 4,980 all-purpose yards and 40 career touchdowns.
You may have noticed that first part about "regardless of what position he plays". In other words, your fixation on naming a running back his size, who has found success is a moot point. He's a guy that will line up all over the place and the coaches will design plays to get him in space. He's also going to be our primary return man. He will not be our goal line or short-yardage back, slamming his body between the tackles.
For you to say that his ceiling is Dexter McCluster is also based on nothing more than your uninformed opinion. McCluster ran a 4.58 at his combine. Archer ran a 4.26. That's a substantial difference and is what gives him the opportunity to be a serious home run threat every time he touches the ball. Their skill sets and size are very similar, but Archer has a decisive edge.
You don't know dick dude. You may wind up being right on this guy, but you also wind up with a heaping plate of crow. I just hope you kind root for the kid when he makes plays for this team and not hate on him because you want to be right.
Thanks Ruth! Ruth is right O. And the easy way on paper to recognize how many WR is the numbers added together minus 5 = Wrs on the field. Meaning...21 personnel...2+1=3...5-3=2...Means 2 WRs. Hope that helps.
That's a way a DC recognizes between snaps what package, play he calls by what the offense trots on to the field. Actually, during the game "traditionally" its easier to recognize the WR & go off that. If you see 2 Wrs you stay in base, 3 nickel, etc. But times have changed & especially in the NFL...Depends on matchups for weekly gameplans. You play the Patriots...22 personnel may draw nickel. A different team..22 make keep you in base. That's just the evolution of the game. That's also why "wildcat" fad exists. A DC sees 3 WRs run out on the field...He goes nickel. They line up in wildcat & the offense has a personnel advantage to the run. Even though the QB splits out...You still have to man up & that creates the throw away defender.
As it relates to Archer, the DC will have to guess what Archer on the field means based on tape & gameplan. For example, Archer comes on the field (Archer, Johnson, Miller, AB, Wheaton)...Looks like 21 personnel. That looks like base. Steelers line up "I formation" & shift or motion Archer from I (Audible - run/pass read in huddle)...Now you got a LB or S on Archer. Johnson stays in to be BB personal protector. Same group & DC sends out nickel. Same Audible but Archer stays in I...Outside zone sweep. Different case...You go what looks like 11 personnel (Bell, Miller, AB, Wheaton, Archer)...More than likely you get at least Nickel. You will have to script plays early to get this personnel group working to its full potential...That's done all the time. But now you could run inside with Bell against nickel. You gain backside freeze by showing end around after you stick the ball & Bells gut (That's part of script). At any time they box their Ss to help against the run...You now have Archer in the patterns against a #3 CB & late S help on the play...I'll take that with BB as the QB. That's just a sample of what Archer could bring on offense. It's package football...He will get his touches. Create some splash plays on offense. Combine that with ST play...I can see the value the Steelers put on him.
Mike seems to understand this:

As long as there are people in the NFL of comparison being successful or have been successful...The possibility of success exist. For as many that fail to succeed...It can be said the same for a 6'5" receiver. The smaller players have to be exceptional to continue to be productive at the highest level...Archer has exceptional athletic ability despite his size & has been very productive in college.
Someone mentioned Tavon Austin was a WR not a converted RB. The two are similar animals. Austin rushed 110/1040 6 TDs in his college career. Archer got rushing yards on "jets" & reverse/end arounds...But he also ran between the tackles & from the I. He won't be asked to do that in the NFL but he wasn't afraid to run it up in there. The Steelers mentioned his toughness despite his stature. He is short but he is put together. If you come away watching his film & think he isn't tough or he is fragile...You are watching the wrong guy. Archer played 47 games in his 4 years of college. He missed 3 because of injury...2 were last year. Despite the conference...There wasn't durability issue patterns. Yes...This is the next level...But NFL coaches aren't dummies. They will put him in a situation to succeed & be productive.
