Mel Kiper mock draft: Steelers select Odell Beckham and Louis Nix

By Neal Coolong @NealCoolong on Apr 17 2014

ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper sends the same two names he did in his "Grade A" list to the Steelers in the first and second rounds, respectively.

ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. called LSU wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to Pittsburgh since he came out with his Grade A draft for each team earlier in April.

Along with that, he predicted Notre Dame NT Louis Nix III heading to the Steelers as well.

He didn't change anything in his latest mock draft, sending the Suffix Team to the Steelers in the first and second rounds of the 2014 NFL Draft, respectively.

Additional titles to names aside, Beckham and Nix would both be strong value additions to the Steelers. Having an early down defensive presence in the middle of the line of scrimmage may help the team collapse each edge a bit more easily, helping the team own the line of scrimmage on the ground. Adding the do-it-all ability of Beckham to an already talented passing game could help the team consistently keep defenses guessing as to their intentions by moving him and versatile WR Antonio Brown around the formation.

The Steelers are meeting with DL Ra'Shede Hageman and CB Phillip Gaines Thursday, two other positions many feel the Steelers will address in this draft. Many will say if these are the two positions the Steelers add in the first two rounds, it'll be viewed as a success.

Louis Nix is round 2??? Yes, please.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

2014 NFL Draft: Speculation surrounding Odell Beckham being a top-20 pick increases

By Neal Coolong @NealCoolong on Apr 19 2014

The Steelers have shown Beckham a good amount of interest so far, but a tweet from a known draft analyst suggests there is a rising market for the LSU wide receiver.

Well-respected Houston-area radio host Lance Zierlein threw some logs on the Odell Beckham speculative fire Saturday, suggesting the LSU receiver won't make it past the 20th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

The Steelers have met multiple times with LSU WR Odell Beckham Jr. After reviewing his film, we can see why.

He says he'll address it in his next mock draft (previous ones can be found on his blog, The Sideline View), but he responded to a suggestion of the Giants, Jets and Rams with "you got one of them," and suggested the other is a team in Texas.

Dallas drafts at 16, the Giants at 12 and the Jets at 18.

There's been a good amount of interest from the Steelers' front office and coaching staff in Beckham, and, as the likely third-best wide receiver prospect in the draft, it's likely he'll be available with the 15h overall pick.

Whether he is actually the Steelers' target, if available, at that pick, only a few people would know right now. What's clear is Beckham is a talented all-around receiver who would give the Steelers another weapon in an emerging passing game as well as special teams contributory value.

So all this talk about a corner in the first two rounds is no longer the deal?

Hmmm...I am not sure I like it.

Just depends on how the draft falls out and if a trade down partner develops, if that's their intention. I would be happy with a trade down scenario and them taking Kyle Fuller. If they stay at their current positions and don't trade down, I have a tough time seeing a Corner in the second. Just don't think the players are there for the value. (Assuming Denard and Gilbert are gone at 15 that is). 3rd round comp pick would have to be the first of two picks at CB you would think.

I would rather them take a cb in rnd 1 and then nix in rnd 2.

That would be sweet. Grab a wr in rnd 3, like we usually do. Sounds about right.

I'm not sure but Fuller has the possibility of being the first DB off the board. He isn't lagging that far behind the other two in many other scouting reports. He may be the most complete DB in the draft.
    Trolls are people too.
