    Boston College running back Andre Williams has drawn the most interest from the New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets, according to league sources.

    The punishing Doak Walker Award winner set the Boston College single-season record with 2,177 rushing yards last season. He was a consensus All-American and rushed for 18 touchdowns last season.

    Williams is a 5-foot-11, 230-pounder who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.54 seconds at his campus Pro Day workout, improving upon his 4.56 clocking at the NFL scouting combine. At the combine, he had a 38-inch vertical leap and a 10-5 broad jump.

    He caught 10 career pases for 60 yards as he was primarily utilized as a rushing threat, but caugh the ball smoothly at his Pro Day.

    Wiliams has drawn second-round to third-round grades.

    The Steelers have two stud backs, and much, much greater needs in most every position. Why on earth would the Steelers look to use a 2nd-round pick when they already have Bell and Blount on the roster? So many articles and reports are just clueless. But I could definitely see NE or CLE looking at him.

    They have to fill space to justify their jobs. Actually saying anything that is intelligent or makes sense is not a job requirement for most in the new age media.

    Just because he has a 2nd to 3rd round grade means little. We could be hoping he is overlooked until the 4th or 5th rounds because we do need depth at the RB position.

    Really starting to think that the Steelers are gonna try to move down or trade somebody. They have brought in many players that are late 1st round picks or second round picks. Also that 3rd round pick isn't until the end of the round. Something is up.

    Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly interested in RB Andre Williams

    The Pittsburgh Steelers took the first step in repairing their dismal running game last season when they selected Michigan State product Le’Veon Bell in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

    When the 2014 NFL Draft rolls around in May, they could look to finish the repair job.

    According to NFP writer Aaron Wilson, sources say that the Steelers are one of the teams that are seriously interested in Boston College running back Andre Williams.

    Wilson also notes that in addition to the Steelers, Williams has drawn interest from the New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns and the New York Jets as well.

    If the Steelers were that serious about Williams, it would likely have to come in the second round as he is drawing second and third round draft projections.

    The Steelers signed LeGarrette Blount this offseason and Blount and Bell make up the only running backs with NFL experience on their roster.

    It is very likely the Steelers will look at drafting a running back at some point in May’s draft.

    How early they will pull the trigger on one is the question.

    Running back is already a devalued position these days. What used to be round 1 prospects are now available in round 2.

    For example, a half dozen years ago, Darren McFadden, Jonathan Stewart, Felix Jones, Rashard Mendenhall, and Chris Johnson all went in round 1. Last year, no RB's went in round 1 and Gio Bernard, Le'Veon Bell, Montee Ball, Eddie Lacy, and Christine Michael all went in round 2.

    This year in particular, it's an especially deep draft at certain positions (like WR), which could cause the RB's to drop even further than usual. What used to be a 1st round RB talent might be available in the 3rd round this year. If Andre Williams falls into the 3rd day of the draft and I could have a 3-headed monster of Bell, Blount, and Williams to bludgeon opponents unmercifully and the cost is only a 4th round pick? I'd do that.

    Don't think of it like us going against the grain of the pass-happy NFL and looking back to bygone days of power football...successful teams of today do this. Seattle had Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin but drafted Christine Michael last year anyway. San Francisco had Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter, and LaMichael James but drafted Marcus Lattimore anyway. If the value is there, you pounce on it.

    Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

    We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

    We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

    Hopefully they'll look into the kicker from Boston College as well. I think he did kicking and punting. Only missed 9 field goals in his career IIRC. Would be a nice UDFA if no one drafts him. Not sure of his projections, etc.

    Nate Freese is projected to be drafted in the 7th round or be an UDFA.

    Just doing their homework...if he's someone they like & he's available later then what's wrong with picking him up? They don't have much behind the Bell & Blount, & who knows if we get hit with injuries or if Blount doesn't pan out, then you've got a RB in the stable.

    Not saying it's what they should do, or reading more into...just think they're just exploring all their options.

    Or bell for that matter (maybe not panning out)... He's got a tremendous upside, and showed us "Flashes" as a Rookie... He's still got a ways to go before we can consider him a proven commodity IMO..

    If he's there in the mid rounds, and we've address the areas of greater need, then I'd be open to giving him a shot.
