MJD continuining his Pittsburgh visit on Thursday

Free-agent running back Maurice Jones-Drew visited the Steelers on Wednesday. According to Albert Breer of NFL Media, Jones-Drew will be back on Thursday.

Drafted in 2006, Jone-Drew has spent his entire season with the Jaguars. After signing Toby Gerhart to a three-year, $10.5 million contract, the Jaguars presumably aren’t interested in bringing back Jones-Drew.

The Steelers could use help at the position. While 2013 rookie Le’Veon Bell has become the top tailback, Jonathan Dwyer has left via free agency. Felix Jones, who joined the team last year, also is a free agent.

The NFL’s rushing leader in 2011, Jones-Drew has rushed for 8,071 yards and scored 80 rushing touchdowns. While the Steelers are pinched against the cap, a market-value deal could easily be negotiated with a cap number in the range of $1.5 million.

The Jets also reportedly have interest in Jones-Drew. Pittsburgh was his first visit.

This would be a nice 1-2 punch for the 'Burgh fellas. The fact that he's back for a second day makes me think he wants to be here.

Right now it is Bell (936.5K) and Alvester Alexander (420k) on the books counting against the cap in the RB position.

Less than 1.5M tied up in players who handle the ball half of the time for the offense. The team can definitely at least justify adding some more money there.

MJD for 1.5 million... just say yes!

Just wondering if we could sign MJD to a 1 year deal for 2.2 million and then extend him to say 2 - 3 year for more after June 1?

Why were we in such a hurry to sign Guy Whimper? Were other teams beating down the door for his services? Or does the team see him as a diamond in the (very) rough?

If we hadn't signed Whimper, seems like we'd have a little more breathing room for MJD right now.

Yes the money would be nice to have. But iI was pleasantly surprised how well Whimpler played last year and he also showed he can play Guard as well as Tackle. He provided nice depth.

Exactly. The team doesn't really need to look for OL now at all (unless a LT falls to them in the draft that is BPA).

MJD would be a great compliment for Bell not only carrying the ball, but also receiving.
