Steelers well represented at Florida State Pro Day

By Neal Coolong on Mar 18 2014

They aren't all there just for Kelvin Benjamin, but he's certainly worth a look. The only question is who's back in Pittsburgh hanging out with Lance Moore?

Is ESPN's Scott Brown daring to suggest the Steelers are there checking out wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin, a target of the Steelers with the 15th overall pick in May's draft?

Just how interested are the Steelers in Benjamin?

Dare on, say some. Others will just say Florida State is stacked with talent, and Benjamin is but one player the team is likely to be interested in as it pertains to putting together their final scouting reports.

Benjamin reportedly is working out in front of Mike Tomlin, Kevin Colbert and Dan Rooney Jr., among others, leading to the natural question, "who's back in Pittsburgh with Lance Moore?"

    Maybe that says it all.

Kidding aside, it's not exactly rare for teams to make in-and-out arrangements for the pro days of large schools like FSU. With so many prospects, they can get in, speak to the ones they'd like to speak with and get out, getting the plane ride to talk it over.

The Steelers have been big fans of Flordia State players over the years, with corrent linebackers Lawrence Timmons and Vince Williams having come from there.

Steel Maniac's Time-Based Prediction: Lamar Jackson will be a bust and total flop in the NFL.

What Actually Happened: Lamar Jackson became the youngest two-time NFL MVP winner ever.

Tomlin, Colbert AND Haley was there. NFL Network showed Haley talking one-on-one with Benjamin.
Tomlin: Let's unleash hell and "mop the floor" with the competition.

Just not sold on Benjamin in the first at any point. Second round maybe but would still probably prefer Matthews or Moncrief.

Wonder if they talked to the safety - Brooks?

Its the Offense's turn to use the 1st rounder this year. It will be a WR for sure. Only Question in my mind is will it be Benjamin or Evans. Setting aside the miracle of Watkins falling.

Outside of similar stature, I don't see how you are questioning whether we would take Evans or Benjamin. Evans is a legit top 10 talent, while Benjamin is a late 1st round talent. We'd be lucky if Evans fell to 15. Using 15 on Benjamin would be reaching if we don't trade down. Evans will be the 2nd wideout off the board, and it's possible that Benjamin could be the 5th or 6th WR in the draft (Marquis Lee is ahead of him, and Cooks and Beckham may have passed him as well).
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

although I agree with you, Greg Cosell has a different take:

“I would probably like Kelvin Benjamin a little more, the Florida State kid,” Cosell said. “I think he’s a little more naturally athletic and a little quicker than Mike Evans, and they’re relatively the same size.”

If the Steelers do their homework (which they will) and think Kelvin Benjamin is the man...I'll be ok with with it.
    Trolls are people too.
