Report: Pittsburgh Steelers Defensive Lineman Al Woods Signs With Tennessee Titans

A source close to longtime Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter Ed Bouchette says that Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Al Woods signed a free-agent deal with the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday afternoon.

While the player and the team have yet to confirm, this would be a difficult blow to a Steelers defense trying to put more of the load on youth. At 26, Woods appears to be on the front side of a promising prime, as he played all 16 games last fall and started a pair.

The 6-foot-4, 307-pound Woods was drafted in the fourth round by the Saints in 2010, but he played in just nine games in his first two seasons in the NFL. After he spent a year on the Steelers sideline in 2011, the former LSU Tiger got into 12 tilts in 2012.

Woods accumulated a pair of sacks and 16 combined tackles in 2013. If he indeed leaves, that would hurt the Steelers’ defensive-line depth and possibly force them to re-sign Ziggy Hood, Brett Keisel or both to complement fellow DE Cameron Heyward.

that's a tough blow, and Hood is visiting the JAGs as we speak. I'd say they better get Keisel on the horn, and hope like heck V.Williams/Arnfelt etc.. step up to the plate. This might also mean a shift towards DE or NT with the first pick.

    Jim Wyatt @jwyattsports:

#Steelers DL Al Woods still sked to visit #Packers on Thursday and #Cardinals on Friday. Meeting with #Titans today. No deal yet

A few people have since reported that Woods didn't sign, but he is expected to visit at least two more teams. He got a lot more interest as a FA than I thought he would. He was a versatile backup, but it looks like he won't return. While not a huge loss, I would have preferred to see him return.

I would like him to stay with us but if he left it's not going to be all that. A solid guy but not a stud.

Losing Woods, Keisel and Hood... we'll be just a tad thin on the DL.

Steelers better step up to the plate in a hurry. Al Woods is going to be a solid starter within two years.
Don't let him get away just before he becomes a solid player (a la Urbik).

I agree, this would put a hurting on the DL. Draft will look a little different if he and Hood are gone. Neither are stalwarts (Woods definitely on the rise) but solid starters that will need replaced.

Just checked the remaining free agents at DT and didn't see much left out there. Hopefully Arnfelt and Fangupo are ready to get some PT.
