I don't know what that is, and I certainly fear that being such may not be such a good thing.

Lots of teams looking at Demarcus Lawrence

Posted by Josh Alper on April 18, 2014

The ability to get after the quarterback is prized by every team in the league, so it probably shouldn’t come as much surprise that Boise State defensive end/linebacker Demarcus Lawrence is taking a lot of visits ahead of next month’s draft.

Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that Lawrence is expected to meet with the Redskins, Cowboys, Saints, Vikings, Steelers, 49ers and Jets before the draft. In addition, he’s also met with the Falcons and done private workouts with the Saints and Seahawks as teams try to determine where Lawrence will come off the board.

The variety of teams showing interest in Lawrence and the variety of the schemes they run suggest a feeling that Lawrence can fit as an edge rusher in either a 4-3 or 3-4 base defense. Lawrence’s college production backs up that feeling, although teams are likely also interested in finding out whether the off-field issues that led to three one-game suspensions for Lawrence at Boise are under control as he moves into the professional ranks.

Lawrence has been projected as a second-round pick, but could move into the first day if a team decides he’s the answer for their pass rushing needs.

UCLA LB Anthony Barr visiting Steelers

    April, 21, 2014
    By Scott Brown | ESPN.com

PITTSBURGH -- The Steelers are meeting with a pair of defensive players Monday, including a potential first-round pick.

UCLA outside linebacker Anthony Barr and Wisconsin defensive tackle Beau Allen are the Steelers' latest visitors as the team prepares for the upcoming draft.

Barr is considered one of the best pass-rushers in the draft while Allen is a projected late-round pick after moving to nose tackle last season when Wisconsin switched to a 3-4 scheme.

Barr is an intriguing prospect because of his production at UCLA -- the 6-foot-5, 255-pounder recorded 10 sacks last season -- and his upside as a pass-rusher. Barr played fullback for two seasons before moving to defense, and he is still learning on that side of the ball.

ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr. ranks Barr as the 15th-best player in the draft.

"He has a decent arsenal of moves, using quick feet and hands to free himself, and he's disciplined against the run, pursuing with speed when the play runs away from him," Kiper writes of Barr. "I love the effort, and the athleticism, but as a former fullback, he needs to grow in his awareness."

ESPN analyst Todd McShay isn't as high on the former Bruins star. McShay ranks Barr as the 30th-best player in the draft.

The Steelers are unlikely to draft an outside linebacker in the first round since they took one with their first-round pick last year in Jarvis Jones. But they do need to add depth at the position and are expected to draft an outside linebacker prospect at some point.

Allen could be a late-round possibility for the Steelers if they don't take a nose tackle early in the draft. The 6-foot-2, 333-pounder recorded 20 tackles and 1.5 sacks last season for the Badgers but did not get invited to the NFL scouting combine.

Allen tested well at Wisconsin’s pro day though he was limited in running drills because of a hamstring issue.

The Steelers are allowed to host 30 players outside of the Pittsburgh area for pre-draft visits. This is the final week of visits for NFL prospects.

Steelers pre-draft visits: Virginia Tech CB Kyler Fuller will visit Pittsburgh this week

By Neal Coolong on Apr 21 2014

The accepted top five cornerbacks in this draft will have met with the Steelers by the end of this week, according to NFL.com draft analyst Gil Brandt.

#VaTech CB Kyle Fuller has had 15 visits or workouts. Has 4 more this week: #Jets, #Broncos, #Rams, #Steelers.

    — Gil Brandt (@Gil_Brandt) April 21, 2014
The last of the top five cornerbacks to visit the Steelers has been confirmed.

NFL.com draft analyst Gil Brandt confirmed Monday Virginia Tech cornerback Kyle Fuller will visit the Steelers this week, joining Darqueze Dennard, Justin Gilbert, Jason Verrett and Bradley Roby as having met with the Steelers at his Pro Day or visited the team in Pittsburgh.

Fuller is perhaps the most underrated of the group. For the big time athleticism of Gilbert and the strong production of Dennard, Fuller may be the best all around corner of the three, the most physical and the best fit for the Steelers' defense.

Like the rest of them, though, the question is whether he's worth the 15th pick. It may not matter, and the Steelers may simply elect to draft their biggest position of need.

Whether it's the 15th pick or not, selecting Fuller is selecting a good football player. The huge amount of interest teams have shown in him is a testament to that.
