Mock 1.0

1. Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson
Attachment 985

With the first pick the Steelers will go Offense. They have followed the pattern of switching every year between O and D with the first pick since Tomlin was hired. Sammy is the best WR in the draft this year and I would love to be able to sit tight and grab him at 15. This is unlikely, but you never know as we have had people fall to us that we really had no idea we would have a chance at in the past. Just look at DeCastro 2 years ago. It was a fact that he wasn't going to me it out of the top 10 that year. Sammy's play speaks for itself. He probably could have played in the NFL his Freshman season. He is that good. Just need to keep him off the Weed. Other picks here would be Mike Evans or Kelvin Benjamin

2. Jason Verrett, CB, TCU
Attachment 986

Jason is third on Mike Mayocks list of CB available this year. I have seen him play and he good cover skills and good speed. Not the best in size but would be a great pick in the second round. He will help us sure up our corner position with and will most likely play in the Dime or Nickle his first year. This would allow Cortez and Gay to start, or Ike if he is kept (which I hope he is for one more year)

3 Comp. Charles Sims, RB, WVU
Attachment 987

Last year we traded our 3rd rounder for Shamarko Thomas. We should receive a 3rd round comp pick this year because of Mike Wallace's contract and playing time. Charles Sims is a total package RB. At WVU he proved that he could play against higher level competition than he did at Houston. He has great hand and can catch anything out of the backfield. He also is extremely elusive for his size which would be a great complement to Bell. He could be a third down back if needed. He is a can't miss pick.

4. Dion Bailey, FS, USC
Attachment 989

Same size as Ryan Clark. Currently listed as SS by Mayock and believed to be a tweener LB/SS. I don't think he has the size for that. He is still developing and I think he could be Ryan's replacement after a year in the system. We probably bring in a stop gap while we let whoever we pickup at safety develop.

5. Will Clarke, DE, WVU
Attachment 988

Will has good size and room to add more muscle and strength. Has experience in a 3 man front. Has played 5 technique. Athletic and quick and still has room to grow and improve. He will be a project player, but should be able to develop into an experienced backup/starter. Could replace hood IMO.

5 Comp. Walt Aikens, CB, Liberty

6. Jeff Janis, WR, Saginaw Valley

7. Devon Keynard, OLB, USC

7 Comp. Eathyn Manumaleuna, DT, BYU

Charles Sims is the real deal. He has perfect size, speed and power. He would be an excellent pickup, and then we can send some of our perennial non-hackers packing. You could plug him in to spell Bell and not have much of a fall off.

Your first two picks will be long gone by the time we are on the clock.

Not sure a RB in Round 3 is necessary unless they don't bring Dwyer back.

Dion Bailey sounds very similar to "Shark" in that he is probably better suited to SS than FS.

If we could land Watkins I would be ALL for going WR with the first pick. That guy is going to be real special.

Yea, as I said he will most likely not be available, but DeCastro also had 0 chance of being there. All I am saying is from my years of watching the draft, you let it fall the way you want and pick up what everyone else left you. I will never again say it is not possible. And yes this has a large WVU lean, but I am as unbiased as I can be in the selections as I possibly can be. I know more about these players as I have seen them play in person. I also know more about the big 12 players more because I have seen them play. My first few mocks are always what I want and this is way early still. That is where all the fun is though.

Don't know anything about the kid, but I believe you. I wish we were better at other positions, to consider it. But we have too many other holes to fill to spend a 3rd on a back-up. Dwyer is fine.

Oh yeah... ain't no way we are getting Sammy Watkins at 15!
