Heath Miller Contract Extension Could Save Serious Cap Space

I have not seen this guy play once, but just by going off past history... I will guess that the best TE in this year's draft, isn't even talked about as a first round choice (Ebron, Amaro). Miller is still Top 20 in the league. That isn't great, but he is solid and dependable as day. Give him another year (off knee reconstruction), and he'll be even more solid, if not outstanding anymore.

I'm all for extending Miller as long as we draft a star TE who can start to take over for him in a couple of years. Some tremendous talent available early like:


Round 1:
Eric Ebron (Game changing talent)
Jace Amaro

Round 2:
Austin Serafin-Jenkins

Late Round 2 or Round 3:
Troy Niklas
CJ Fiedorowicz

I wouldn't want to go tight end in the first round...however, I'd take Serafin-Jenkins in the second or Fiedorowicz in the third.

In my opinion he is better than Eifert and has a much higher upside. We're talking Jimmy Graham, Vernon Wells potential.

Sure, Vernon Wells was great in his early years with the Blue Jays, but after he signed his big contract in '06 he fell off and started getting hurt. I'd prefer a guy with Vernon Davis potential...although I spoke with Mike Singletary and he still prefers Wells.

I think Miller's extension will be one of the first offseason moves right before the new league year starts.

I would negotiate reasonable contract extensions to both Troy and Heath....I would not ask for a pay cut...
