You cannot get rid of the signing bonuses on Ben's current contract.

Joe Flaccid's contract is a new contract. Notice how on your chart the first year is 2013? Well, Ben is nearing the end of his current contract...

There is nothing that can be done about the bonus money on his current contract...the only thing that could be done is a post June 1st cut, which will spread the cap hit over two years...but, on way or another, it's on the cap...
Yup. Once again, trading Ben will incur a huge cap hit. While I've learned not to say "never" about such things, I just don't think it's likely to happen.

If indeed the ownership or the FO leaked this story, do you suppose there's another reason? To lay the groundwork for firing Haley and some other offensive coaches?

Not sure why our FO would leak a story to fire Haley but I do believe Haley is probably on his way out. Hopefully the OL coach is on the same plane.

Yes you can. Again see what Baltimore did with Flacco. Before the start of the 2013 season he was over $14 million towards their cap. He is currently $6.8 towards their cap this year.
Sorry but this can be done.

No...You can't Dub. Any bonus (signing bonus, guaranteed money, restructure) remaining on an extension from the old contract has to be incorporated into the new. If you trade a player it is applied against your cap in the year of a trade.

Then explain how Baltimore did it?

It's simple: Baltimore didn't do what you think they did.

    Joe Flacco was drafted in 2008 and signed a five year deal...'08, '09, '10, '11 and '12...

Flacco would have been a free agent in 2013, but signed his huge deal with the Ravens...

That $14+ million cap figure you reference was the 2013 Franchise Tag number for QBs last offseason...

The tag numbers for 2013 (franchise tag value listed first followed by transition tag value):

    Quarterback: $14,896,000 / $13,068,000

yep, its called dead cap money. like the 3M or so we had to pay off on debo's contract

some sites show how much dead cap money there will be the following year if a player is cut/traded

Dead cap money charge if we trade BB prior to June 1? $13.59 million.

That's why I don't buy the story that the Steelers are looking to trade him.

If they were looking to trade him, then it was a colossal flub on their part to have restructured him this past offseason, since before that restructure it would have only cost them $7.59 million in dead money to trade him.

Depot who seems to have a really good cap handle and he says Ben would cost 13.59 dead money if traded. Which would only save on the cap $5.305 mil worth. The Steelers should be able to save about that same 5 mil with an extension if he says. Also if traded what would a high 1st rd QB cost also should be looked at. Depot says tenth pick last year was 2.212 last year. Also add in any extra picks that would be had in a trade. So the Ben trade does NOT fix the cap problems over an extension for Ben. If this Rumor is a set up from the Steelers FO it is to add some pressure on Ben to do a home town discount on his extension this off season. It will help him become a bigger fan favorite doing a home town discount also. Win win as I see it.

A win for the fans and the FO and a loss for Ben financially if he takes a pay cut. I don't see why he would do that, business is business and he's worth every penny, IMO.
