Boomer Esiason: Steelers Loss To Raiders Would Be ‘Unacceptable’

    http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2013/...-unacceptable/

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – CBS NFL analyst Boomer Esiason thinks the stakes are very high for the Pittsburgh Steelers as they travel to face the Oakland Raiders.

Esiason previews the weekend ahead with Vinnie & Cook on Sportsradio 93.7 The Fan.

“If they go out and lay an egg out in Oakland this week, then you know the season is over for them,” he warns. “It would be just totally unacceptable for a Mike Tomlin team to lose to a team like the Oakland Raiders being quarterbacked by Terrelle Pryor. You want to make sure that there’s no doubt in anybody’s mind that the Steelers are relevant and back in the mix again.”

While Esiason has some doubts about Pryor’s abilities, he has no qualms about what Ben Roethlisberger can do.

“While he may not be the best quarterback in the league, you know what? He’s the best football player at the position,” he admits. “If there is ever a quarterback who can overcome the shortcomings of an offensive line, it’s him.”

Esiason also tells what he makes of Brett Favre getting calls from the St. Louis Rams, how he sizes up the AFC North race, and why he already can’t wait until the Steelers meet the Ravens on Thanksgiving night.

With the hole the Steelers put themselves in, they're all "must-win" for awhile.

the steelers (at least in my opinion) have chronically been known for playing down to the level of their opponents for years. now the reality is they themselves currently might be the team OTHERS are playing down to - but the one bright spot of this debacle of a season so far is that every game is a must win. so since there is no wiggle room - we might be optimistic that THIS west coast trip will be better than what we've seen in recent years.

Wow, that's a heck of a thing for Boomer to say about Ben. I don't think I need to remind anyone here that Boomer isn't exactly a Steelers homer.

Boomer is correct. Screw playing down to competition. A loss to this terrible team would be an embarrassment and an epic failure. Just can't happen.

I have a feeling we're going to have to score more points than we've been scoring to beat the Raiders. They have a decent rushing attack. I'm not confident about this game at all.

Their leading rusher is their QB. It says that they aren't very good running the football. And we know what kind of passer Pryor is. Given our current plight, this especially is a winnable game. Coming out flat (as we've been known to do to the Raiders; add to it a West Coast outing) would be deadly to our chances.

Tomlin doesn't play the game. There is no such thing as an unacceptable loss in the NFL. Boomer played in the NFL and should know better.
