Thread: With all respect - are the coach haters feeling differently after these past two game

Timid and scared play calling on both sides of the ball. You might be able to get away with that against the Jets and Ravens, but you think that's going to work against teams like the Patriots, Lions, and Packers? Anybody see the Broncos-Colts game? The Steelers aren't even playing the same sport.

The Colts originally wanted to establish the run and control the clock against the Broncos. After one drive, they realized that wasn't going to work. They became aggressive on offense and put the pressure back on Manning and the Broncos to come back. Defensively, the Colts jammed the Broncos WRs and forced Manning to move out of the pocket, where he is much less productive. Would the Steelers ever do that? On defense, they generally sit in soft coverage and hope the other team's offense makes a mistake. On offense, the Steelers will waste drives and time trying to establish the run, while the other team scores quickly when they have the ball.

Don't let these past two wins fool you. The Steelers are still playing an outdated style of football.

The Colts won because of mistakes by the Broncos. Period.

    Fumble turned into a TD.

    Strip sack.

    Penalties on defense.

The Broncos killed themselves much like the Steelers did in games 1-4...

Yeah, the Broncos did hurt themselves, but don't take anything away from the Colts. They didn't **** their pants and play scared football like the Steelers would have done against Manning.

LeBeau's defense gives up all of ONE TOUCHDOWN thus far in October, and he's past his sell by date. Gotta love it.
    amazing isn't it?
everyone talks about turnovers and sacks because they're exciting, but the key stat is points. Everything else is secondary. A team that only gives up one td in a stretch will have more wins than a team that gets turnovers but can't stop the other team from scoring.

    THANK YOU!!

The number one job of a Defense is to keep the other team from scoring.

The D is pretty much carrying this team the last 2 weeks. And the Jets and Ravens aren't that bad. And other teams with winning records aren't that good. This team can beat anyone imho.

Even when we were losing, there were some good things happening and it wasn't ever as bad as anyone said it was. We're not quite there yet either, but I've been saying all along, if we can work some things out, this can be one of the most dangerous teams in the league come December. And that's what you really want. It's just unfortunate we couldn't have pulled out a win or 2 in the first 4 weeks to put us in a better position.

Everyone talks about turnovers and sacks because they're actually important aspects to winning football games. Last I checked, when you get a turnover the other team can't score because the defense took the ball away. When defenses get sacks, they force the other teams offense behind in the down and distance and also change field position.

You want to talk about stats and how the Steelers defense has only given up one TD in the last two games. They should be commended for that, but we should not sweep under the rug the fact that the defense allowed yet another 4th quarter game-tying drive.

I know many of you have a hard time coming to grips with the way football is played today as opposed to 40 years ago, but the purpose of defense has changed in the NFL. It's not about yards-allowed anymore. The NFL wants higher-scoring games and doesn't want to deal with lawsuits. Offenses have a huge advantage over defenses. The best thing a defense can do is to get the ball back to it's offense, or score points itself. You may not like it, but the NFL doesn't care.

And guys, you're badly overrating the Jets and Ravens. The Steelers beat them because they both tried to play the Steelers' game. Think that will work against the better teams in the league?

    Please enough with the myths.

Old style showed up 2 weeks ago and is undefeated.

Your way, 50 plus passes just lost to Matt Cassel. It ain't beating Brady. How did THE JETS who we just beat to it? FIFTY TWO rush attempts. So easy even a ROOKIE QB can do it. That's old school putting the smack down on Brady.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

    TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

They just beat the Patriots with 52 rush attempts. They lost to us with only 20 rush attempts. In a sense you are right. They were like the losing Steelers. That is not old school, it is trying to be like everyone else. We have 6 rings because we are the Steelers not everyone else.

Tje superbowl was between 2 teams who played hard nosed balanced football.

Even Peyton won his ONLY RING with Steeler style playcalling.

We have been more pass-centric as a team with Haley than we have ever been. People just make stuff up. NOW we have the back and can get back to STEELER FOOTBALL. We see the difference already.

And our offense continues to turn the ball over. Teams, other than the steelers that is, SCORE MORE THAN 17 POINTS A GAME. How many teams have broke 50 this year? have we scored that much this year?
