Not surprised. It is the difference between being in the know ...and not.

Positives: Has a big upper frame, with broad shoulders, long arms, big hands and good chest thickness, along with a big bubble, wide hips, thick thighs and ankles, along with a frame that has the potential to carry more bulk with no loss in quickness … Very light on his feet for a player of his size … Has excellent explosion coming off the snap and nimble footwork, especially in his kick slide … Uses his feet well to slide out and adjust on the edge rushers and knows how to shoot his hands in attempts to lock on and sustain … Has the quickness to recover when beaten and his feet allow him to redirect with ease to neutralize backside plays … Aggressive drive blocker with the hand punch needed to shock and jolt the defender … Finds ways to get the job done on the field and will not back down from a confrontation … Can dominate once he fits on a defender, demonstrating the quickness to reach and make cutoffs … For a big player, Brown is very nimble on his feet, as he has the loose hips to redirect and shows good control changing direction … Even when he gets high in his stance, he has the knee bend to slide laterally … When his head is in the game, Brown shuffles his feet and gets in front of the defender with good urgency … With his upper body strength, nimble feet and suddenness getting his hands up, he does a great job of neutralizing the defender … Flashes a powerful punch and easily contains edge rushers once he locks on to his target … If he connects, he will generally control his opponent until the whistle … The thing you see on film is his ability to roll his hips and explode off the line … Shows good hip and knee bend to deliver good lower body power off the ball … Very good at caving defenders once he lets his body go and he is quite effective at turning and sealing … Has the upper body power to combat stunts and blitzes

    CAREER NOTES
Over 60% of the team's ground yardage has been the result of key blocks by Brown over the last two seasons … During that two-year span, Levi registered 136 knockdowns/key blocks, with 23 producing touchdowns.

You guys do realize that at the start of the season our OL had the least number of starts of any line in the league. Short of getting our Qb killed (Adams) give these guys a chance to gel. The way you guys talk on this board everybody has to be perfect, every game has to be perfect, every offensive play has to be perfect, every defensive play has to be perfect, every special teams play has to be perfect, the owner,gm, coaches have to be perfect. These are people not robots. If Brady and P Manning are so GREAT how come between both of them they have only won ONE SB in the last 10 years and Ben has TWO. Lighten up already,we all have high expectations of our team. We got to 2 TO last game BUT because we dropped one that is the story people run with. enough

In the know... Hahaha... This guy was a 5th round draft choice in '07 and and AZ was so hot to get him off their roster they took a conditional draft choice and agreed to pay the bulk of his salary just to get him the hell off the team. And now he has another injury to the same arm as before and is missing his second season. Stop pretending this guy is going to be a positive for this team. It's moronic to act as if we got some steal a quarter into the season. Cut this guy and bring in someone who can actually contribute. Waste of time and a roster spot.

Wasn't he the 5th OVERALL draft pick. They passed on Adrian Peterson for him.

He was a 1st round pick (#5 overall). But regardless, you dont think he could be an above average run blocking guard? His strength has always been run blocking. And if you go back to my original post, I did suggest bringing in someone who can actually contribute at LT (Texas A & M LT Jake Matthews).

Now with what Matthews has shown to be, having Brown move inside not in space, why would that be a big improvement on what the Steelers currently have?

Sorry, you guys are correct, I meant to say 5th overall, not 5th rounder. I'd be fine with him coming back on a try-out basis but only if his current contract is torn up and then burned. If he wants to try to make the team (as a guard or tackle) and takes the league minimum with incentives for playing time that'd be great. But as a guy who's now lost multiple seasons and was a cast off from another team not all that long after they took him in the first round; he is not worth all that much. And since he never even played a game w/ the Steelers it's not as if he has a leg up on the playbook/schemes more so than a healthy FA they could look to bring in. My main point is I don't believe this guy is in any way the answer to the line issues. If he's willing to play on the cheap he might be a complimentary player. Might.

I agree with what you are saying, which is why I hate the constant movement of the OL during the summer. Adams and Gilbert flipped sides, trying everyone at every different position - guards at center etc.

When it comes to the OL, I'd like to see the coaches determine their starting five and then keep them together, side-by-side, throughout the spring and summer. This is where they have to earn their paychecks - by evaluating who will be their best and then doing everything they can to make that happen.
