The Cardinals have agreed to terms on a trade that will send LT Levi Brown to the Steelers.
The compensation will be one or more late-round draft picks. An overrated talent that was consistently short on performance, Brown finally exits the desert seven years after the Cardinals took him fifth overall. He started 79 games, failing to ever become an even moderately effective player. So far this season, Brown has graded out 60th among 72 of PFF's qualifying tackles. That said, he's a slight upgrade on current Pittsburgh LT Mike Adams -- especially in the run game. The 0-4 Steelers can get away from Brown after this season as his guaranteed money will be up, but they're grasping at air here. Beat writer Ed Bouchette calls the trade a "panic move."

Correct. The FO traded next year's 3rd to the Browns for their 4th this year, and used it to select Shamarko. Jones was taken with the Steelers 4th rounder.

Part of the rationale for trading away the third was an expected comp pick for Wallace.

Why not wait to see what happens before judging the trade.
Something had to be done and they did it.
At least they're acknowledging that somethings wrong.
Man are you people ever FN satisfied?
    Adams was garbage this year.
    Adams will be a backup
Hopefully he develops with time, i doubt they cut him.

Slight upside is better than what we've seen with Adams at left tackle.

Perhaps he was referring to the Bouchette "panic move" quote.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Looking at OL on the roster and their 2014 cap hit:

    Brown (LT) $6M
    Foster (LG) $2.05M
    Pouncey (C) $4.639M
    Decastro (RG) $2.131M
    Adams (?) $966K
    Gilbert (?) $1.026M
    Beachum (everywhere) $581K

To release any of these players, the cost would be:

Brown $0 since only a player's salary comes to the new team and the SB is absorbed by the old team
    Foster $600K, 2/3 of his $900K SB so a savings of $1.4M
Pouncey forget about it, the guy has been restructured so many times that the savings is only around $1.2M on his $4.6M cap hit
Decastro also forget. It would cost over $2M to get out of his contract
Adams and Gilbert don't have enough of a hit to get away from for the cost. You only get them away if you want the roster spot, not to save money.
Beachum makes no money so not much to save

So IMO there are only two guys we consider getting rid of for cap savings purposes next year. If we can confidently move one of Beachum, Gilbert, or Adams into the spot then it might be worth the savings to release Foster. It would show a small miscalculation from the talent evaluators, but not horrible.

If we cut Brown after 3/4 of a season then it would show us that our FO is leaps and bounds behind the Ravens. Both teams bring in a LT via trade. Baltimore moves first and gets the better player for (probably) a higher price - a 4th and a 5th. They only have him tied up for one year at the cost of 3/4 of $3.8M. The Steelers then react by taking a lesser player at (again, probably) less of a cost in terms of picks. However, the salary and cap hit are higher at 3/4 of $4.75M, but with the option to keep him under contract for three more years. If they do not exercise the option to keep him around after this year then they are paying more money to acquire a lesser player.

Hopefully the he agreed to restructure his contract to join the Steelers. But...........probably not.
Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.

An orange construction barrel wearing a steelers jersey is an upgrade over Adams (that pains me to say too...since he is from my alma mater).

Looks like a desperate, reactionary move by the Steelers...the Ravens make a move, so the Steelers, behind the curve, react by making a move...but is Levi Brown really that much better of an option than Max Starks would have been? And Starks would have come a lot cheaper.
